Kodiak,

Do a search on Chopper and BigTusker. I believe one of the guys did a bird hunt with him last year or the year before. It sounded like a good hunt.

I've been working on arrangements to hunt with him, but haven't been able to get it all coordinated (too much going on in my little world right now). It'll probably be later in the winter or spring.

I arranged for several guys from another forum to go with Chopper last year. I think I was the only one who had gotten a hog previously. We all ended up with hogs. The heaviest was a nice boar at 226 pounds, then a 206 boar, then a 196 boar (all the boars' weights ended in "6" for some reason. I wanted a sow for meat, and got a real tasty dry one at 173 pounds. The other guy with us took the first pig he saw, a little 120 pound sow.

We saw a ton of game - several bobcats and coyotes and a ton of quail. Some real nice deer, too.

He has a really nice house on top of a hill, with beautiful views of the valley for his hunters to stay in - real beds and all! It was really a gorgeous place, and several of the guys have gone back. In fact, one guy has gone back a couple of times.

Chopper does "semi-guided" hunts - he shows you around, may or may not take you out actually, you provide your own food and dress out your own game. He does have a clean walk-in cooler and game hoists you can use. At least that was the deal we went with.

Most of us who went are going back for a "reunion" of sorts next month.

It was a whole lot of fun!

I hunted quail at Chopper's ranch last year. It's a beautiful ranch. Lots of sign all over the ranch for hogs. His prices are reasonable and it's not far from town at all. I recommend a hunt at his ranch. I'd hunt hogs there, but I'm not a bowhunter.

Chopper is one of our sponsors here and even though I haven't been up to his place yet, all I've heard is good from people I trust.

I've been down to Chopper's 4 or 5 times, and I'm having to drive 12 hours to get there. So that tells you what I think of the place. Coming from Northern Oregon, I've done a lot of reasearch on California hog ranches. And I have found for the price, this one is the best. Plenty of game, and the accommodations are excellent.

We have taken some good boars there, and also some nice meat hogs. I like the fact that the hunt is semi-guided. You don't have someone on your hip the entire hunt. You are free to hunt the way you want to. This is a great "tune-up" hunt for my Oregon elk and deer season.
