Jesse, Westy, and myself had the opportunity to chase some deer and hogs with Tom Younce of Santa Barbara County Outfitters. He was mostly showing us one of the properties, but we did get some hunting in. No blood this trip, but I'm looking forward to getting back out there.

Check it out now, in the JHO Journal.

I just booked a trip with him for Aug 19th. Smallblockfuelie are gonna go out there with him for a coyote/varmint hunt. Tom seems like a super nice guy, and I can't wait to go out there. I haven't been able to bring myself to paying for a hog trip yet though, but if I was gonna, he'd be the one I'd use...

My wife and hunted with Tom over the weekend on his Lompoc area properties. He has area's looded with bean fields, if not for the full moon we would have scored for sure. He is a great guide, hard worker and really likes to see his clients take game. We will be back up next month to try again.

Thank you ever so kindly for your words Speck. But PLEASE! Try and come out for General season opener August 13th. I have been watching 2 Bucks now for the last 5 nights, at 1000 yds, with MULTIPLE POINTS! ! !
At that range, in Ca. that equals an impressive TROPHY!
The beans are all getting pods on them and that will mean alot more pigs. I had an associate go into the valley yesterday where you and I were glassing from the truck ontop of the grade. The area with that 400 plus pound porker. The area is alive with fresh sign, but, it is the most difficult area to hunt.
I went to the back side of the Barn mountain and found 4 fresh pig crossings on the barbed wire. Shortly after day break, I found the pig hair and the mud was still dripping off.
I'll keep you informed as to the movements of the piggies.

Tom, glad you liked the article.

Thanks a ton for the invite. I honestly wish I could make that 8/13 opener, but some things have come up in August that I absolutely have to take care of. If you've got a customer coming out, put him/her on one of those monsters and let's see the pix when you get 'em.

At this point, I'm not sure what my September looks like either... even contemplating not buying my Bzone tag this year at all.

But at least the CO elk hunt is locked in for October!

You guys who've hunted with Tom know what a great guy he is. And those of you who are planning to go... you'll be in for a great time. I'm sure with the beans coming in now, the hunting will only improve. And no more full moon 'til near the end of August!

No Elk tags for me this year. I was turned down

I'll try to find someone for the opening weekend of Gun season. I just had 2 cancellations.

Ya know, ya can come out anytime to hunt. Plus, there is the late season primative weapons hunt on that ranch. MA3 is the tag to apply for.

Talk to you soon " S.B"

Hey Sara

I'll give you a call when I can figure out which way is up for September. I'd definitely like to get back out there and was really looking forward to the rifle opener. But if I take off to go hunting in August, I may have to pack my belongings when I go.

C'est la vie and all that.

EEEEWWWWWW! Ultimatums! A woman gave me one once, I moved out in 15 minutes after 2 1/2 years. I wasn't really into her anyway.

I do look forward to hearing from you. I wish I was going with you Elk hunting. It's been a dream of mine for years. Next year I'm going to do a Guided Elk hunt in Co.

I'll be guiding in Iowa and Missouri this fall as my Santa Barbara ranch dies in October and business dies at the onset of Elk season followed by Whitetail season. I'll be guiding for IMB Monster Bucks. They advertise here in the outfitter section. They took the coveted and very prestigous " Outfitter Of the Year " award in 2004. Plus, they film hunts on their properties with Hunters specialties for T.V.

My partner Jeff will be guiding on our Bakersfield ranches which are 54,000 and 12,000 acres.

The Santa Barbara Ranch is awesome for Dove and Quail during the fall. There are openings for that. Look for the fall special on my website. If nothing else. I'll hammer a pig for you here, and I can bring it up to you?

Thanks for all of your support. If anyone ever has the chance to hunt with the " Speckmiesser " do it. Your ribs will hurt from all the laughing.

And remember...Skunks equal bedded Deer!

Jeph, I'd be interested to hear how you and smallblockfuelie do on your Aug. 19th predator hunt. I hope you nail 'em. Good luck.

Looking forward to hearing about it. I had a buddy book a pig hunt with Santa Barbara County outfitters today. He needed a fourth, so I'm in. My hunt is on the 16th-17th, so I'll post the results when we get back. You can't beat the price. Good luck to you guys (Jeph and Heath) and take some pics.
