How much you willin to spend Chuckerlover? I got the Leupold WindRiver 12x50 and IMO they are the finest glass I have looked through. I paid about $450.00 for them 2 years ago. I know now you can get them under $400.00 online. Sportsmans carries the line but they dont have the 12x50's. I'm pretty sure they could special order them for you. Give me a call and I can let you check mine out. I'm in town pretty much everyday monday thru wednesday.

If you want 8x powers, try out the Ziess Diafun line....Around $400
I love mine...very lightweight, very clear, very bright.

I use a pair of Leupold 10X42 Wind River cascades which are pretty light and give a very nice clear image. I wear them on a harness and they lay against my chest all day while deer hunting. They can be had for about $250. I like the 10 power but they also come in 8 power.

I bought my Nikon Monarchs 10x40s about a year before the Wind River line came out--my father-in-law bought a pair of the WR 10x40s--they're far better than th Monarchs for the same price. I do not think they can be beat in that class of 8-10x binos--but, I haven't been to one of these mega outdoor stores to do a side-by-side of all brands at the same time so I can't truly say if there's one I think is better than the WRs in that price class.

for one get a crooked horn bino strap if you want the weight off your neck. Cabelas has their brand for $20 or so. Tight budget to me for binos would be about $100. It was when I got to 10X40 Bushnell Buckhorns. I think I saw them on sale in Cabelas a while ago. They are coated lens, waterproof, fairly compact etc. Pretty good glass for the price. Alot clearer than an other $100 dollar glass I've had. I compared to a friends windrivers in low light and I couldn't see much difference.
