I finally did it. I got my first kill tonight around 4:30 just got home a bit ago. Buddy took a nice hog too. Saw a sow and a couple little ones at a bout 200 yrds decided to make our way down to get a better look in to the creek. cross the creek and started to work our way down the edge when right behind us the first one pops up I pulled up and blasted him just as is partner came out behind him. Damn second one stood there looking at his buddy sniffing Buddy said take him? nuff said he was down, then belive it or not another came out and I was racking another when he said no let that one go. We are looking at the first and I was heading down into the creek to get the second and My buddy spotted a big one down in the creek, And he got his...Oh man what a feeling success after so long. Got pics am going to try and post.
Privet land just north of Hollister. Theese guys fell to the .270 WSM out of my Model 70 Super Shadow 140 grain silvertip factory loads that I must say at 75 yards punched clean thru without even a hint of expansion on the exit wound. First was a bit of a gut shot but nothing messy second was all lung, but I'll tell you what if they were standing on in front of the other I could have saved a round.
Nice job! I too just scored my first boar, 275 lb taken with one shot from a .308 at 125 yards. We had seen him on the neighboring property across a fast flowing 60' creek over 500 yards away. we moved on down to scout another area and when we returned 30 minutes later he was moving up and down the creek looking as though he wanted to cross. We watched him and after 10 minutes he entered the water, i ran down stream thinking the current would carry him down stream but he crested the 80' bank 100 yards from me but was able to bag him before he got too much further.
