Difficult to answer a foolish question like that, the regs are crystal clear about what time you can or can't shoot, so, explain how you will know whether it's legal to shoot?

I'm proud of you. You did the right thing. Me personally I would not have checked my watch until after I shot.

It Is always better to feel sick from doing the right thing than feeling sick in Jail for doing the wrong thing.
Adam there is no regulation about carrying a watch, go out have a good time, I think you'll find out a great quality
watch is far less than the fines you'll pay and the two hunting seasons you'll miss.

I'm just saying, what if you don't carry a watch? I know the regs about shooting times, and I've never looked at the time BEFORE taking a shot.

Adam, to be perfectly honest, when I was younger I never gave it a thought, if there was light enough to shoot I did, seems like when you get older your perspective changes, and when you get my age" older than dirt" you are much more aware of the consequences and try to be as lawfull as possible.

This is an interesting subject. I know what law says but I'd be curious to know how many hunters really bother to determine exact legal shooting times for where they are hunting and then go by it. Evertone knows dawn and dusk are the prime hunting times of the day. You can pickup any hunting magazine and read articles about guys hunting at very first or last light with no mention of exact time. You'll also see ads everywhere for optics touting how they'll let you shoot in very low light so you can extend your "hunting" time a little longer. I've been on a fair number of guided hunts and i've never had a guide even mention specific shooting times, they just seem to go by available light. Has anyone on here ever been cited or heard of someone cited for shooting when it's light but before or after an exact time?? I'm just curious to know.

I know a guy that was given a real hard time about coming out of the woods after legal shooting time with his gun still loaded,my observations have been that judging by the shots heard after legal time a lot of people don't pay attention to actual time, on guided hunts you are usually far from town and the guide is pressured to have you score, so generally if you can get a good clear sight picture you go for it.I don't agree with a lot of laws but, at my age I prefer to err on the side of caution.
