Please critique this photo if you will, I have done no enhancements its strait from the camera just cropped it. need to get myself some Photo Shop software so I can better my photos. whatcha think I could do to make it better?
Dan - I like them both. The flower has good composition with the middle being off center and all of the petals included. Enough depth of field to get all of the flower in sharp focus. On Mr. Toad maybe a smaller F stop (like F8) would have put more of him in sharp focus. Something you can try if you are not too close to the subject is to use some fill flash. It will add some sparkle and boost the color some and also soften shadows. You can do a lot with software. The best for the $ is Photoshop Elements 2. Very powerful, easy to use and inexpensive. I use it to process all my photos that are "keepers".
Thank you for the Honest comments... I will attempt to next time utilize a differant F stop. the learning curve is slow for me I am considering a photo class to help speed things along for me. But then again have been finding good info on the net and you have helped me with advice as well.
Dan - A class or 2 would be a great idea. I recently took a basic and then intermediate Photoshop Elements 2 class through an adult continuing education program. Very productive and it got me "kick started". I then picked up a couple of good books on using the program after that and the learning curve really accelerated. The digital camera compared to film will also speed you along because of the quick feedback you get. Just be sure you take a look at and think about why the bad ones were bad before you hit the delete button. Keep on having fun with the camera.
OBH, Nice pictures. I too am having a fun with the new camera. I hope you don't mind if I add onto your thread with a few pics of my own. Just a couple flowers.
WB, where did you take the classes at? I'd like to take a couple myself.
Real nice Pictures. VERY Vivid... did you use MACRO mode for those or regular and zoom in on them... I used the MacroMode for mine and stayed back about 12-15" and just zoomed ever so slightly with Camera in auto mode.
I dont mind at all, You did great job with those...
The one is a Merigold..correct.. whats the purple flower I like that
Foulshot, I saw your question to WB about the Photoshop Elements 2 class and I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.
Number 1, WB is right, PSE 2 is super powerful program and very affordable compared to the full version of PS.
I also took a PSE 2 class at online at Eclectic Academy http://www.eclecticacademy.com/ and it was GREAT! You can basically go at your own pace and you have a full week to complete each lesson. However, if you don't do your work at all, no one is going to care.lol The best part is that the 6wk class only cost $20 and instructor was great. You could ask all kinds of questions on the class message board and get help very fast. I'm sure there are many online schools like this out there that are good. These are really great for those of us who don't live in a city big enough to have these classes held in our town.
Foulshot - The classes I took for Elements 2 were held at the Datel store classroom on Ruffin Rd. in San Diego. They are sponsored by the San Diego Community College district. Free. Here is a link (scroll down). Click on the Datel icon and you will get a page with enrollment info.
OhioBowHunter, both pics were taken in the SuperMacro. The purple flower is from Red Apple Ice plant. Something we use here in SoCal as a fire barrier around the house.
Tx, thanks for the link.
Wildbird, thanks for your link as well. I wondered if it was ROP or someone like Datel. I saw the software at Costco and almost picked it up just based on reviews here and DPreview.
