I'm looking for a good guide that doesn't require a 2nd on my house. I live in O.C. so nothing too far north. I haven't had very good luck with guides in the past but I've been skunked this year. Anyone know a good one?

There are a lot of them, but how expensive is too expensive?

You'll be hard pressed to find a hunt under $500 these days, although they're out there.

The JHO Tejon Hunt in May is a good opportunity for $450. It's officially unguided, but there are usually a bunch of us there who don't mind offering some help to folks who are willing to help themselves as well.

For more info there, check the pinned (sticky) thread at the top of this forum.

Take a look under the sponsor section located to the right of my post. lots of good people there waiting to help some of them offer Hog Hunts in addition to other game. open their links and If you like one, or if a name jumps out at you, conduct a search of the name and you should see some great threads involving there business.

Good luck on your search hope this helps.

my strategy is as speck suggest. slowly, i am trying to get involved with some of the organized hunts arranged here no jesse's. no guides, but i feel some friendly veterans are better anyways.

I highly recommend hunting with David Rossi, Pancho Rico Creek Ranch, in southern Monterey county. His 5,000 acre cattle ranch is located a few miles east of San Ardo, CA and has an excellent hog population. I've never been there and seen less than 50 hogs in a weekend. If you're a gun hunter you'll have multiple shot opportunities at less than 200 yards. It's a great archery hunt too but there are too many factors to figure in to give a good success estimate. If you know how to stalk and feel comfortable shooting at 35 yards, you shouldn't have a problem. Quite a few hunters book multible trips a year up there so plan your trip in advance.
