Throw my name in the hat as well.

24 yrs old and just moved to Berkeley a couple months ago to attend law school.

I've been hunting and fishing my whole life, but am brand new to the area, so I'd love to meet some locals and start the learning process for hunting in / around the Bay Area.

I brought a bunch of gear down from WA and can hold my end of the travel / food expenses. I can also offer hosted duck hunts in WA (excellent hunting).

In any case, if anyone feels like hunting with a new buddy this season, just let me know.

To you new guys, if you want someone to split gas costs with, I'm all for that too.

New to hunting, too

I live in the San Diego area. Absolutely new to hunting and I am also looking for a hunting parner/s or a group willing to allow someone to tag along for experience. I would be more than happy to glass, etc. I am not shy to roughing it or serious hiking. I am willing to car travel within reason - let's say bottom half of CA to AZ for now.

I see al you guys wanting to pig hunt at Lake Sonoma. I would recommend saving up some bucks and getting a guided pig hunt instead. I live right nearby, and have access to it all the time, and the success rate there is really low. Last time I hunted there, there must have been 60 hunters there too. Those pigs are completely nocturnal, too much pressure. I know some people who hit it hard, during the week and have killed a few. But for a weekend trip all the way from accross the bay, there are outfits right nearby that will guarantee success, for about $400 give or take. There are a lot of people who use that lake for recreation other than hunting. Those pigs move mostly at night.

But with that said, I think a blind setup on one of their highways is the best bet statistically speaking. There is not a lot of flat ground and it is hard to hump up and down the hills and still be silent, while making enough ground to be effective.

Now, as far as hunting buddies goes, I feel your pain. I have access to good private land, but I am looking for somebody close to Santa Rosa. If somebody in sonoma county had private access too that would be a good connection. I rarely hunt the public lands because I think it's like going to a strip club on the weekend. There is way too much competition. If anybody wants to hunt fall turkeys with a bow, or an air rifle, I am offering semi guided access. Message me for details.

Hey Folks. Ok. So, Im back into it. Looking to go out for piggies. Been out trying to get one at Lake Sonoma... Not sure, but I'm starting to think the rangers go out and dig up the soil just so they can get registration fees and camping fees. I cannot, for the life of me, find any pigs there.

Anyone else ever had any luck? I'd be interested where/ how you managed. Personally, Ive been bowhunitng near the main camp-zone and towards the water. Cannot find anything more than fresh sign... like still warm sign- but no friggin pigs. I've tried stalking (havent had much luck in the "spot" category), and using scents to attract them in a field that had FRESH sign.

Just dont know....

Hey Bux,

Been a while, but if you are still open to taking out a new hunter for ducks or pheasant, Id be down. Yes, I am totally licensed and legal... and a crack-shot at skeet and trap. Glad you dont drink either while on the hunt.

Can you provide any names of nearby outfitters that fit that $400 bill? I'd totally be down for that! Just hiked... I mean hunted lake Sonoma last weekend. More fresh sign, but nothing decent enough to chase.

Hey Dev,

I would reccomend you reach out to George Mavrakis http://www.wildpighuntingguideservice.com/hunts.html

Mel Carter on this site has setup a group pig hunt with a bunch of JHO guys the last couple years and I took my first pig on this ranch last fall. It's a huge property and George is a really nice guy.

Good luck to you.
