Ok heres the story and my plan. As some of you may or may not know Myself and a couple of my pals have become pretty good friends with some folks out in Wyoming. There names are Warren and Reggie. Reggie (her real name is Regina) owns the ranch we hunt on and bought it as a single women and ran it pretty much on her own for a number of years, to say the least she is a strong gal. They invited us up to the house one night for dinner and after dinner her and I had a chance to chat alone. We got on the subject of kids and come to find out she had a 19 year old son who was killed in a car accident while working in Wisconson. I to having a 19 yr old could not imgine the loss. She showed me a picture of her son with a nice 6x6 Elk and proceeded to tell me the story about how this was his first elk and they were hunting together when he shot it. She told me her son figured he would have plenty of elk in his future (don't we all) and he gave the rack to his buddy. She expressed how badly she wished she had that rack back and that the kid still lived in the area. Now for my plan I have her nephew working on getting me the rack back from this kid and he seemed to thinks he can get it. I told him if a C note or two would help let me know, anyway I want to get these antlers and do a full shoulder mount for her on a nice plaque with this picture. I NEED a cape

If anyone happens to get a bull elk and does not want the cape please keep me in mind. Size does not matter just that it is a bull. If someone has to pay a taxi or butcher to cape it I will reimburse them the cost, I will also pay shipping and throw in a case of beer for the trouble. Thanks for any help you can give me. Tom

good for you Tom. Good luck in your quest. My suggestion would be to call a processing shop. They get tons of capes that they just toss.

I leave Tuesday for an elk hunt in the Maury's in Oregon. I can't afford taxidermy and, if I score, was just going to beetle clean and bleach the head so you're welcome to the cape if I score. I'll be back home on the 30th...or earlier if I score. Now I have a REAL mission, beyond my own.

I'll be hunting with my buddy in Nevada between November 12th & 27th. He's looking to take a good mature bull but is not interested in the trophy aspect of the hunt. If the opportunity presents itself for me to obtain the cape, I'll surely do what I can. I'll let you know one way or the other upon my return.

Go to the "Taxidermy Net Forums" at this link: http://www.taxidermy.net/forums/ and go to the "wanted" section...Make your case on that forum and I bet you will get a cape and it will probably already be tanned...a lot of good taxidermists frequent that site and you have a good story....Good Luck!

Sorry to be of no help at all. It was not for lack of tryin' though. Just got back from 5 days in the mountains. Not a track! Most camps pulled out two days early it was so bad. I spent Friday and Saturday with the foxpro calling coyote! Not a single camp in the Maury's where I hunted, that I talked to, saw even so much as a fresh track anywhere. #@$!!! frustrating! There'll be next year...

Ferd Berfull we had a similar experience in Colorado in Nov 1999 and haven't been back, the game dept lied to us about hunter success and game migration several times, the elk we were seeking migrated in Feb 2000.It happened to friends in New Mexico who went to a zone supposed to be alive with elk but the tracks were a year old.just can't trust anyone!

No sweat FB, sorry to hear you didn't do well. I applaud your efforts

. It really sucks when all that time, $$ and effort go into a hunt like that and nothing pans out. I have a call into a processing shop in Buffalo Wy. the guy was going to have his boss call me back.

I have a cape in the freezer from an archery hunt in September in the bighorn Mts. of Wyoming. It is a six by six. Let me know if you have found one or not.
