The real story is this. Me and my buddy each purchased a CBH BGC $10,000 raffle ticket at the CBH Banquet, which put us in for a pig hunt raffle. The hunt was for one person. So we made a deal right before the the ticket was drawn, if one of us won we would split the cost for the other guy to go. My buddys ticket was drawn, so I'm going hunting for half price. We haven't picked the dates yet. It's a three day guided archery hunt with Don Smith. I believe we are justing the Tejon Canyon area which is bowhunting only. Has anyone hunted the archery only hunt before? Any info on this hunt would be appreciated. Thanks. Ed F

Ed, Iv'e hunted all over that ranch except where your going. Sorry. About the only thing I could offer is there are pigs all over that place and I'm sure you both will have a awesome hunt. Make sure to post up all the pics and story when you get back. Good Luck

Congratuations, Ed!
I went on an unguided pig hunt with Don Smith last year at Tejon and will be going again this year at the end of Feb. He has leased property on the North side that is archery only. Last year during the 3-day hunt, I saw a lot of pigs, just couldn't close the distance. There's a place called "The Monty" where most of the hunters got their pigs. It's a mostly flat, but brushy area, so the hiking isn't bad.
Don's a great guy and if he's guiding you, all you'll have to do is shoot straight.
Have you already picked a date?

Nice Ed!

I've heard nothing but good about that hunt. Of course, archery hogs ain't ever easy, but this sounds like good odds in a great place.

Congrats to you and your bud!

OH, and do a search on Tejon and Archery, and there are a couple of threads about the hunt there.

Bowunter,

I've been there a few times. Beautiful cyn. Looks like California musta looked a couple hundred years ago. May be going back in Feb. for the next one.
Shoot me a pm and I'll help as I can, I've learned my way around a little.

Bowunter- Congratulations! I've hunted there countless times and I can assure you that you'll have a blast. I haven't been there since last summer so I'm not sure if it's producing this year or not, we'll see in Feb. when I go again. The canyon is my favorite place on the ranch but Don also has a couple lower areas if you're into flatter country (Monty Field & the Alamo). If you don't mind steep stuff ask to hunt "200 Pig Road" or another area is Jack's Pasture. Good Luck and post some pictures when you get one.
