Hello all,
Here is a picture of my youngest son's first hunt. The hunt took place in Idaho on a controlled hunt, where only 20 Bull Elk tags were issued. We were informed that he was too young to put in for California this year (do to his birth date), But he was old enough to put in for Idaho. We practiced diligintly to prepare for his hunt. Shooting out to 300 yards, knowing that this is a common occurance in Western big game hunting. Well we spotted this Bull Elk with 20 cows opening morning. We devised a stalk which took us 2 hours to get to 285 yards, most of that was on our knees. Several times I asked if he wanted me to hold his rifle but he would reply no. He made the first shot @ 285 yards through both lungs. The Bull ran for about 60 yards looked around, then stumbled and bedded obviously hurt. My son moved closer for a second shot in which, @ 260 yards, put the final shot through his heart. His first words to me were " man dad that was exciting ". It was an experience that will last the rest of our lifetime.
