If you could chose a State residency for hunting?

i know this man...he owned a gun store in el paso texas. he moved to NM, which is just a few miles away, and became a bonifide New Mexico resident. he never drew an elk tag! for YEARS! i think he finally started buying land owner tags..

i believe i could satiate my hunting bug by killing random pigs steadily. that is why texas is on my list.

Montana or Idaho would get my vote.

Colorado would be my first choice if we ran our big game hunting like MT, ID, or WY.

sounds like CO has the game and habitat but there is something you don't like about Management, what is that? Do they make it impossible to draw a good elk tag?

Colorado big game seasons are very short and crowded. In WY, MT, ID you can hunt with both Archery and Firearm, where in CO you must choose your method and hunt that season only. Season lengths in other States are very long compared to CO too. Other States also place restrictions on Nonresident numbers to ease the crowding issues, where CO sells OTC Bull tags to everyone that wants one and gives out 35% of its draw tags to NonRes vs. the 10% most other western States hand out.

Colorado is a great State to big game hunt if your just visiting for a week

Now I do think we have it pretty good when it comes to Waterfowl & Upland bird hunting. Long seasons, lots of variety and pretty liberal bag limits

That may well be ,but I bet he only put in for the prime spots...if you look at odds overall you will draw,just might not be the Gila. Besides I might just wind up selling landowner tags...

Idaho,I grew up there and would love to go back. What other state allows you to use your deer tag to hunt bear? The seasons are long enough for you to score your game.The diversity of upland game birds is great also.

Wyoming hands down........cheap to live, and I'd have the opportunity to hunt huge species of elk, mule deer, whitetail, moose, sheep, mt. goats, antelope, bison, cougar, black bear, grizzly bear (?), wolf (?). It's also the least populated state in the nation.

There are a lot of varibles in this question. I would have to say colorado if your talking just elk and deer. they have the most elk in the country and arguably the biggest mule deer. colorado has great big game management. Its not the place to kill a giant bull though. Idaho or wyoming would be my next choice but there game management is questional, way too much resident pressure on the deer resulting in a lower age class of deer. As far as all around hunting i would say california has the greatest variety of game and pigs to hunt all year. the grass is always greener on the other side.

Utah, or Wyoming. Both have great hunting and flyfishing, not to mention landscape.

Depends on what kind of hunter you are if you are a trophy mule deer hunter Colorado holds the record for most boone and crockett mulies, if I wanted year round hunting Idaho would be the top of my list because of its diversity of wildlife.

Well I WAS going to say ALASKA because to me it's a hunters paradise out there.

BUT,.. my wife and I have been discussing Idaho,Wyoming, or New Mexico so any of those would work just fine for me. I've hunted Idaho a few times and loved it. I'm headed to Wyoming this October for a wapiti hunt and I'm probably gonna' love it even more.

Still New Mexico for me!! I sign papers on my ranch Monday, and I have elk tags to sell this year!! I lived in Montana but I don't like 4 months of outdoor time,-20's for months is not for me.It's great country and all but I like the outdoors,year-round.:smiley_yahoo:

I would prefer to go to Idaho next would be Texas. This two places, I think would be perfect for hunting great preys.
