For deer hunting this year, I've drawn for the Sprague unit as my second choice and never hunted there before or explored it. I've only driven from Eugene -- to and from Klamath Falls on highway 97. So, I'm familiar with what the country looks like from the highway but not actually driven off road through the unit. I've also driven from Klamath Falls to Lakeview -- so, I've seen the country around Beatty. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the time to scout the area.
I have a friend that grew up in that area and he said the unit was full of roads as it was heavily logged at one time. But he didn't have any advice of where, within the unit, to hunt deer.
Also, I have the choice of driving a 37' class A motorhome and pulling my ATV on a trailer-- or driving my pickup truck and pulling my ATV, then sleeping in the back of the truck as I have a cap on the back of the truck.
I'm 62 years old and don't crawl in and out of the back of the truck as easily as I used to do. So, I'd rather take the motorhome but don't know if there are places I could find to park it. In any event I will take my ATV -- then take the ATV to where I plan to hunt that day and hunt on foot. I'm not a road hunter.
So -- (1) does anybody have advice on which part of the unit that I should hunt for deer?
(2) are there places to park a motorhome?
Thanks,
Crockett
