Correct contact for Frank and Tom. Thanks!

Thanks Hoghunter.

I checked out new number you gave me for Frank – got the woman's voice and left couple of messages but so far no reply. It is close to the holidays so maybe he is traveling.
Also called Tom and got him first try at the number you gave. He was on another call but called me back that evening. He was great to talk to and there are lots of good reports about him on the Web. $575 for 2 day hunt in either King City area or Paso Robles depending on the activity...
I’m definitely going to go with Tom to get some experience under my belt. Hog or no hog, at the end of the day it is another step toward total enlightenment and a warm up for when I take the Admiral (my wife) to NativeHunt. She and I have signed up for early June as NativeHunt recommended the month for good weather and hunting.
And if I get a call back from Frank and he is as good as all the intel says, I'll go with him too. My only problem will be that if successful, I'll have to get a bigger freezer.

California Hog hunting

I hunted with Bert Claassen (pig-hunt.com) in San Miguel the first week in November and got a really nice 250# boar. There wasn't an abundance of pigs there at that time but Bert sure worked hard to find me a hog. He did a GREAT job. Others have also written about the Twisselman operation. You might check them both out.

Asaxon,

Glad you got in contact with Tom. Tom is a GREAT guide and access to some awesome propertys. Blake and Tom work REALLY hard to fill your tag. I do not think you will be disappointed with the hunt. I have been with Frank numerous times and ALWAYS came home with a pig. Either guide, I am willing to bet you come home with a pig! Post up after your hunt! G'Luck!!!!

Too many hunts, not enough time and thanks to all the forum members for the input

Thank you White Smoke. I checked out both of those you mentioned, Bert Claassen and Hogs Wild and they look very good "on paper". I'm going ahead to book a hunt with Tom W asap in January, my work mate has signed me up to hunt with him at the Jack Ranch and then my wife and I are off to Native Hunt in June. There are simply too many good guides/hogs to do all at once. What fun!

Once again, I want to thank all those of you who gave me intel on this and I promise to post the story/pics from the hunts.

Never hunted with them, but I drive past one of there ranches alot, some times it lookes like an exotic farm with all of the differnt types of animals grazing next to the road. Today there were buffalo standing right next to the gate. Talking to some of the locals, the hunt can be as hard/easy as you want it to be.

fair chase pigs please

Interesting. The idea that NativeHunt will make it a fair chase hunt for the pigs is what attracted me. I understand they have exotics that are fenced in – that is not of interest. See the attached URL for a picture of the Buffalo at Catalina standing by the road and looking at us (don’t even think of shooting it). It would be like shooting your dog.

These Catalina buffalo are currently managed by giving them birth control…no joke. The problem now is the Buffalo simply walk through the deer fences that were put up to keep the deer out of the more sensitive areas of the island where the native plants are recovering (root sprouting) from the big fire of several years.
