Ranger Joel, believe me understood, unfortunately. However, I have to say that it is refreshing to see a friend's group actually work well with the managing agency and accomplish things.
I have a 17ft Coleman with a 2hp Honda outboard. Works great for me and a buddy. Get's a little full and sketchy when we go over wake of other boats. Would probably do two trips or take less gear next time. Done it about 3 times. I think it's a great way to hunt the lake. Paddling would be a bad call since any wind would easily overpower you and the boat.
My friend has paddled in from Yorty Creek to our camp at Loggers. It took him 45-1hr. He said it was not difficult. I took my boat. 15ft 30hp camo Gregor with side console. I prefer the power. It is certainly possible to be overwhelmed by a top notch bass boat wake in a canoe, so that fear is certainly valid. Also, once at camp, if you want to go hunting somewhere else, you have to expend the energy to go paddling over there. Sometimes that energy is really needed to traverse the terrain of Lake Sonoma, but hell, you might get the sneak on one so good luck. The nice thing about non trailered boats is you can launch them from Yorty Creek boat launch normally. I'm not sure if it is currently available in this year but who knows.
sancho...I checked out this boat at Bass Pro Shop the other day. I'm definitely interested, but it'll take a miracle to convince the wife. May have to remind her that I've always wanted a motorcycle and she's always vetoed that. Not sure if I should burn that ticket on a boat or Alaska hunt like you. Either way, I'm going to keep working on her.
