I looked through my scope at the end of the weekend and found that I could see internal threads in the tube and the eye relief is so bad that at 12X I almost rest my eyeball on the back end of the scope.

Is this the way scopes begin to fail, or do they just go black? What are the usual symptoms of a scope failing?

This one is a Tasco 3-12X and has worked well for years, but it looks like I should get a new scope now. The gun is a .223 so it hasn't been beaten up by recoil, just lots of shooting.
