Oh man Speck, you had to ask! Got two shots, missed one and hit the other. The one that got hit ran off into some waist high brush. I took a running shot with my old 303 (brother was borrowing my 30-06 since he doesn't own a rifle) as he trotted out of that field of brush. He ran straight back in there squealing bad, so I knew he was hit. I found a little bit of blood, but the trail died. The guide said he couldn't use his dog to track him, and that we would never find him in that brush. That was a pretty bad feeling, not finding that wounded hog. The rest of the hunts we mostly saw sows with piglets...seemed like they were dry though. No other shots possible!!
Yeah bubba, kind of disappointing. Wrote a letter to the guy who heads up the operation...seems like the guide should have made more of an effort to find that pig. Maybe I should have insisted more at the time.
What guide did you have ? When i hunted there in July i took a shot at a pig in the dry river bed. Thick cottonwoods and other brush, the pigs high tailed out of there and my guide and i looked for 40 mins before we realized i killed a branch that wasn't visable in my scope. I agree you should have insisted more, after all a guide is paid for such services and their agreement states the guide will retrieve your kill along with field dress and skin. Why is it he couldn't use his dog ?They don't hunt with dogs on the Jack ranch but tracking a wounded or recovering dead animal is all together different. Just my 2 cents
Probably better not to mention names, I'd like to see what the guy who runs the operation says and maybe come to some kind of compromise. Me and my brother overall had a great time on this hunt, and I learned alot more about pig habits and habitat (this was only my second pig hunt).
Joe,
Your absolutely right, it's not important, hopefully Bert gets back to you and something is worked out to both 's satisfaction. And it was a learning experience, and a good time was had.
