Javalina calls...

I bought one for last years hunt, but didn't get to use it. Be sure to get the instruction tape that goes with it, or you won't know how to make it sound right.

The J13 Deluxe works incredibly well. I called three different groups of javies back to me after spooking them. They turn around and start sprinting back! Also, after the hunt, my call went through the washing machine. It ruined the reed. I called AP Jones at javelinahunter and asked if I could buy a replacement reed. He said, "Don't worry about it. I'll send you a new J13." And, he did. Pretty cool.

I've used mine and they work great. Sucks them right back to you.

I used one last January and at one time when I spooked several javs, I squealed on it and was able to get one to come back. Yes, it worked. I just can't shoot.

Looks like I am getting one for my birthday this month. Just in time to play with it for January's hunt.

I have 2, used them in Texas in June when it was hot but no luck. I heard it works great if you spook them, but in my case I was just trying to call them in without seeing the animals which is not recommended since the animals can get sanitized to it. I am going to use it again this December when Javalinas are more active in the day, versus summer/hot days when they are nocturnal
I recommend recording the sounds from the website to regular tape or burn to CD and play in your car before the hunt to get used to calling.

I actually have had success with a deer grunt call. I have found that any sound will make them pause, not sure about them coming running back though. COunting the days until january

Here's the call that I use. If you have ever spooked a group of javies before you have heard the Whoofing noise that they make. They do this because their eyesight is poor and when spooked they whoof to locate the other javies to regroup and head out. If you spook them or your buddy shoots one and they start whoofing to each other. Mimic the whoofing sound and hold your ground. Don't move because they are looking for danger. You can call them back to you. They will think that you are another javie and come to you. I have done this on several occasions. Once we shot three out of one herd, filling our tags in just a few minutes. It's an easy sound to make without a call. Don't do it until they are spooked and whoofing or you'll send them off running. Does this call work on the Feral Hogs that we hunt in California? or do Javalina (AZ, Texas) make different calls?

If they are the same I've got to try one since I spooked more than my fair share prior to me seeing them.

I've tried it several times with hogs in Ca and haven't had it work. I believe that the feral hogs can see better and they don't whoof to re-group like the javies do. Feral hogs just scatter. They do make whoofing noises though. Ed F
