I hunted with TXBOWHUNTER {tony} over the thanksgiving weekend!
the land is vast rugged terrain and everthing bites or sticks! rattlesnake infested ,lost of yotes and jackrabbits!
the morning I killed the javalinas ,I was running too late to get in the stand over a feed station,because I had to drop regi off.So I walked in slowly and quietly from a good vantage point.I could see that there were 2 javalina already there ,so I got in position and shot the sow {the bigger of the 2} from about 80 yards through the lungs with My .243. She made a circle and dropped, the other was gone! it is very sandy there so tracking was easy.I started following the tracks the boar had left ,he busted out of a brush pile and he got a texas heart shot from about 75 yards,he circled and made a run at me ,then killed over in a brush pile!
we saw an awesome muley buck and a few does as well ,but never had a good shot opportunity at the buck!
we also saw 8 rattlers and killed 6 of them !I killed 2 a diamond right at 4 foot with 15 buttons and a prairie 2 foot + with 10 buttons!

Everyone needs to check the local & federal endangered species laws before offing reptiles.Some are listed as endangered my son found that out the expensive way when he was cited for being in possession of a green mojave he killed at the mojave national preserve cost him about $500.

scr83jp.. Thanks for the heads up.. Remember that we are in Texas and do not have near all of the rules and regulations that you guys out West have. No season or limits on rattlers! In fact, I still cannot figure out why we have a season and bad limit on javelinas and not feral hogs.. Does not make much sense to me.. I just hope he does not get flamed for killing them.. I posted that I killed some one time and almost started WWIII from all the "reptile lovers"...

Guess.. you are more than welcome to tag along on the dove hunt.. Only about an hour west of Decatur... By the way, I live just down the road from you in the suburbs of Dallas and hunt out in Palo Pinto County...

timber rattlers are protected in texas.also known as velvet tails!
I raised snakes for years! so they really don't bother me one way or the other!

Don't mean to steal the post, but I was interested to read this weekend while in Texas that feral hogs are considered exotics which is different from a
non-game animal. I think.

This from the TP&W regulations booklet.
"EXOTIC ANIMALS AND FOWL
Exotic animal refers to grass-eating or plant-eating, single-hoofed or cloven-hoofed mammals that are not indigenous or native to Texas and are known as ungulates, including animals from the deer and antelope families that landowners have introduced into this state. Includes, but is not limited to feral hog, Aoudad sheep, Axis deer, Elk, Sika deer, Fallow deer, Blackbuck antelope, Nilgai antelope, and Russian boar. "

I guess the javelina are native so they are considered game animals and thus controlled. Interesting.

Hey Guess, Everything you got in them pics is mighty tasty... I'm partial to Ground Jave' in chili and rattler's make pretty good chili too and Grill Up "REAL" nice over Mesquite, like Riblets!!! And Tim...you're surely right about the folks out here in Calif. gettin' all headup over one thing or another! We got so many "Issues" for'em to fret over, that when things get alittle quiet...they go to dreamin' up new ones, just so's there's somthin' to march around squawkin' about! This just might be the "Anti-Everything" Capital of the World...and nobody feels the squeeze, more'n us in the Huntin' Community! I got a cousin lives outside of Ft. Worth, married a local fella from there and she loves it! She's originally from the Mid-West and always Badgerin' me to come for a visit to see her kids n' such! If I get the chance, might just do that...it'd be good to get out in the field with some of you boys. What's the cost for Non-Res License and Tags an all? hey oneclearshot ,it doesn't cost much for a 3 day deal less than $200 for turkey and non-game! I think.

Guess, you know of any places for Javelina at a reasonable $$$

It looks like you can get a 5 day NR license to hunt the exotics, hogs and Javelina, but not deer or turkey for only $45. Sounds good for me, I don't plan on being there longer then for 5 days, and can't afford the big $$$ for a whitetail.

FForF.. Maybe the javelinas are native... Not sure. The reason for the regulations could be because there are way more feral hogs than javelinas.. Good point though...

OCS.. It looks like $45 will be it for the license if you just want to hunt feral hogs or javelinas.. Just remember, there is a season on the javelinas, the season is different in South Texas and the season only includes certain counties, so you would have to plan accordingly.. Also, if anyone is up for some varmint hunting at night you can do that as well.. Also, all the rattlesnakes you can kill!!

Guess... where did you take the jave at?? Was it a private ranch or guide service or what????
