Who's in? April 10-12 2009

Hog or turkey hunting.

Camping is $10 a night and the annual pass is $90. Weekend hunting permit is $35. You need to send in your hunt permit apps right away if you want to make the deadline to process the app in time for the hunt.

Nice looking turkeys. There is a chance that I will be there on Holy Saturday, but not Sunday. Traditionally, my mother has the family for Easter. Through the years I have been at Liggett during Good Friday quite often and visited the Mission to light a candle for my deceased first wife. She had spent a lot of time with me camping at the check station, and enjoyed driving the Jeep. The new wife, well, that's another story.

Hey Rick
I check out the same spot where you and I caught up to them back in Dec/Jan.
Good luck.

Gonna try and roll in late tonight to the campground. Gotta watch my Blues clinch a playoff spot first.

You can count on me being back in 19 again. I love that area above Hughes swamp, and usually setup my Meade ETX 90 telescope. My Jeep transfer case was making a loud clicking noise last time, so I'm real worried. (Don't try it with one of those push button all wheel drives.) Cell numbers are always welcome in case of break downs. I have the Verizon GPS Cell Phone that sends my exact position along with the a text message. That tiny GPS is as accurate as the bigger GPS units without WAAS corrections. (20 feet) That's a lot better than I expected from a cell phone, plus if another GPS cell phone receives my message it will navigate to my position using the roads. With voice commands.

I didn't make it, didn't want to fight the snow at the Vine or Cajon summits. Anybody still dry there? Any hawgs down. Throw a poor homebound soul a bone.

Man, I know where a couple of turkeys roosts are too. :smiley_doh:

Hi Jesse,

You missed some beautiful sunny weather today, but I didn't do well with my hunting. When I ford the river, back in TA19, the Naci was too deep and shorted-out both my starter and voltage regulator. So, the wife's Cherokee sat there in the middle of the river all day until my son arrived with the truck to tow me to the campground. I rented a camp site until I can return for it on Monday. Anyone ever had that problem with a starter while in high water? Is there a fuse? I have had two CJ5 Jeeps and never had one cut-out like that, right in the middle of the river. I did had a great morning with me being the only one hunting the area around Generals Reservior. One of the reasons I hunt back there in 19 is becasue I usually have it all to myself, but on the other hand, not one vehicle pass by while I was stranded in the middle of the river. Something to think about. What if I was bleeding, or something? The new Verizon GPS needs streets to navigate, so my son couldn't find me with cell phone navigation while on Liggett. No streets, just a big gray mass. When we packed out of there at 5pm it didn't look like there were many JHO guys. Hope to meet you next time.

While we are waiting for some pictures from 10/13. Be ware of the ford at the north end of TA-19. The water is crystal clear, so it looks a lot more shallow than it actually is. While sitting in the river for this cell phone picture the water was above my rear bumper and into the back end. All my gear was soaked before I could get it out. It will take at least a week for the motor wires to dry out, so I will have to go back and tow it home.
