ranchwife has chosen the topic of Landscapes for February's photo contest! There are 2 requirements for this month's contest.
1.) It must be a landscape photograph without any man made attributes (no roads, no signs, no powerlines, no docks, no buildings, etc),
2.) and the photo must be in black and white.

The landscapes can include mountain ranges, the ocean, lakes, fields, water falls, forrests, prairies, or anything else that you would find outdoors (but not close-ups). Feel free to give some details about your photo, how you photographed it, or your b&w conversion process.

There are some simple ways to convert to black and white. All photo editing programs will have a one step convert, or you can control some of the look and feel by following a few steps ( see this tutorial on Luminous Landscape )

This contest will run until Tues, Feb 28, 2006. At the end of this period we will vote and the winner will be awarded prizes from Jesse.
Please reference the JHO Photo Contest Rules and Procedures.
Submit all photos into this thread, if you have any questions, you can email me or post a question in a thread.

I'll play. This picture was taken with an Olympus digital in the Santa Fe mountains a couple of years ago and photoshopped to desaturate the color and then adjusted with red and yellow to give a sepia tone. Then I faded those tones to get this tone. Unsharp mask and highlite/shadow work was done as well as midtone contrast adjustments.

my last entry. B&W is what I do. I shoot a Pentex 640 in med. format. I dont work the pictures after I load them to my computer, I will dodge and burn in my dark room when I print the picture. I only use this film camera when I do B&W. Sorry, more info than you wanted.

Took this from my tree stand, liked the clouds with the tree, and turning it B&W I thought made it look better

Here are a couple from the 2005 Texas JHO dove hunt. I learned it was fairly futile to try and find shade under a mesquite.

I got the pictures black & white just by clicking the B&W button on iPhoto. I did adjust the brightness and contrast a bit for clarity. Camera: Olympus Stylus 400

A small lake in the Canadian Rockies that my wife and I found while on a hike above Lake Louise.

Edited for a disclaimer: This cannot count as an entry from me, I'm just sharing the phone because I really like it. My wife actually took this one. I took a very simlar one at the same spot but didn't scan it since we already had her copy scanned.
