Just curious on how many are going to the Dec. 13th hog fest. I've been trying all year to get over there for one of these get togethers but something always comes up. This time it looks like it will finally happen. Myself and Rudog will be there on Friday at about 3:00pm or 4:00. Still undecided if we are going to camp or hotel it, depends on the weather. I will probably make hotel reservations just incase of rain. See you guys there.

Mel,

You have to have an RV to camp on the base. The only other place to camp is by the railroad tracks. It looks like there are about 30-40 JHO hunters going. It's a great place to hunt.

Some people camp next to the freeway and railroad tracks at the Camp Roberts exit. I don't know any specifics. You can stay in quarters on base for about $18 per night. Contact CR billeting.

I'll be there and had planned on camping either in a tent or back of my truck. Thought it was allowed on base???

Myself and my group would come only if we can camp with tents. It would be a bummer if we can't.

You can stay at the tracks in tents. It's right across from the gate. Myself and lawdogg are coming with about 4 or 5 more. I'm not sure where we're staying yet???

Hey Cda55,
The CR dates are Dec 12-14th right? Also is there any special fee other than the normal CR's fees? Looks like it's gonna be me and 2 other, porbably stay on base Thanks Hogfever

I intend to go along with my hunting buddy. I'm not really set up for camping. Anyone have information on the nearby motels to call for a reservation? Is there any paperwork that must be taken care of prior to arrival? What paperwork must one bring along with them to get into Camp Roberts? How does one get to stay on base?

Thanks for any info from you folks.

I would check at the Western States Inn in San Miguel. It's right up the road and not too bad prices. Just the normal fee for CR and one of the forms is available here on JHO. Look in the JHO events forum right at the top is a post by Boartracks called Pig o rama. It has a link to the registration form and a lot of other info. 12-12 and 12-13. Hope to see you all with bloody hands.

How many people can this area by the RR tracks hold. I won't be there until late Friday afternoon, I would like to camp but if it's going to be too crowded, I may get a hotel.

Thanks,

I was going to ask the same question. Is it a good camp site with no restrictions? How many camp sites? And how far from the hunting area??

Ditto on the camping facilities question as I won't be able to get up until late Friday night. Don't want to have to scramble around late at night to find a motel because there's no room left at the tracks.

I've never camped there, but it's just an open area between the road and the railroad tracks, outside the check-in gate. No sites, and it's clearly not an official "camp ground" at all. I think the locals know about the lack of facilities in the area, and just don't bother the few hunters that sleep there before the gates open. If I stayed overnight, I'd consider camping there, but I would secure my gear before leaving the area to hunt.
