7 weeks and 3 days! I'm starting to get excited. I had a great time last year and I can hardly wait till May 25th. Don't miss it, don't wait too late. Get ahold of Speck and start getting your gear together.

I'm a first timer....and I can't wait until May. I already have my bags of cement....all I need is a 10 story building and an App from Speck...and I'll be ready for the hunt! Oh...Speck, how does one take those 750 yard shots on a cloudless day!

Bring it on. All you guys on the fence really need to throw down. Just having the chance to meet Speck in person is worth the price of admission.

Really, this trip is the best value of any pig hunting on private land that is available in Ca. Once there, you will be amazed at the enormity of the ranch. You will see hogs. You will probably kill. May is a good month. They have to move to and from beds, food, and water. May is a great month. I bet the success is well over 50/50 in May. Also, hanging out at the campfire is worth a few hundo. And, Jesse will probably clear out all the '06 merchandise to make room for the '07.

I'm counting the weeks until we go. We're gonna be camping in style w/ the RV and got my old 89 Cherokee running again to tow behind it. Figured my Dad's F250 can take only so much punishment down those narrow creek bed trails. Hopefully I can put a stalk on that huge boar Kenny and I got on last year and not get screwed by a yote this time. See you guys there and if your thinking about going you need to just sack up and sign up.

Quick question since Suzmar1997 mentioned a F250. I am having to borrow a vehicle for the May hunt....A 2x Jeep Cherakee vs. a F250 which has been lifted to the clouds. Which one would you guys recommend, since I have yet to experience these famous Tejon roads/trails?

I used a two-month old 4runner 4x4 last year. I made a mistake of turning into what I thought was a gently sloping hill. I've engaged my low gear 4x4 and I thought I would never make it to the top since I've already floored my gas pedal. And that was a dry albeit gravelly road.

Powerman (lurking here right now) let me ride with him on the first day. He got a full size truck and went into some deep canyons with single vehicle road. Right then and there I told myself I don't want to have to turn back in case the road has a wash and unpassable somewhere.

A four-wheel drive in Tejon will work out fine -- as long as it does not rain. It will just limit your coverage and you'll not want to be in "difficult" situations.

That 2wd will get you to most of the areas in May, although you'll wish you had 4x4 when the time comes to climb some of those roads. That big, lifted F250 you're talking about might be a bit bigger than you'll be comfortable with on some of those twisty, narrow trails though... and I can absolutely guarantee it'll have some backcountry pinstripes all over the paint job when you get done.

I usually offer rides to anyone who needs them during the hunt, and will do what I can this year. However, as mentioned before, the new Strike Vehicle (her name is Petunia

) is a two-seater, unless I have time to get a jump seat added in between now and Memorial Day.

By the way, fellas... I don't know who's still sitting on their apps (actually, I DO know who's still sitting on them), but we need to get those things turned in here.

Never thought I'd be saying this, but right now we're still short of the minimum number of hunters to lock in the price. If we can't book 20 hunters, the cost goes up by $100 for this year (or we cancel), and I'll have a hard time getting the deal for next year.

Tax time is upon us, and I know there are some fat refunds out there...time to get up off the wallet, sneak past the warden, and drop that app in the mail!

Like the others have already said, you can do most of the roads in 2-wheel drive. There are only a few sections that need 4-hi and then there are a few roads that get pretty narrow and twist and turn sharply (Which you don't necessarily have to take). My dad's F-250 has a 4" or 6" lift with 35's and did great, besides the small creek bed we took that had us pushing away branches to prevent scratches. This year it will not be an issue for us.

XD - Speck read me correctly. I'm waiting for my tax refund. And that's federal. The state is reclaiming most of it despite the back breaking withholding.

It is still 50-50 for me but hedging (can't event take a half-day leave for doctor's appointment) to avoid the bigger disappointment in case I'll eventually end up just reading about the fun of the hunt here.

Beast you have to go. If it wasn't for hogzilla your pig would have taken the jackpot. I understand your hesitation, but my suggestion would be for you to stay in camp the first day and hunt Sat and Sunday. That might help that first day bad luck streak you've got. I've got to admit I still pull up your pic sometimes and it looks like it hurt bad. Just a tip, no driving until you get in the truck, hurts less.

Am really glad there was no LEO in Tejon. Otherwise, my truck would have been ticketed for driving without a driver.
