Oh this is an easy one, even I can help on this.... unless you are extremely lucky and shoot it as its getting in to your truck, prepare to work your arse off. Bring lots of water, rope, and a winch if you got one. Lots and Lots of rope...
I've benn waiting for this hunt for months, foaming at the mouth. Speck has been filling my ear with stories of past pig hunts, and you know how good he is at telling a good story. Now you know why I have the FEVER, and this will be my first hunt outside Ducks and upland birds. I'm worried how sick (the fever) I'm going to be after the hunt. Can't wait!
Kochino - I looked at the regs on the DFG website and only found a non- resident license fee. It did not speak to requirements. I will post your question on the Hunter Safety forum. I hope you two can make the hunt.
Just wanted to bump this up as a reminder... Tejon Apps for the Memorial Day hunt MUST be to me by Monday, May 14 (about 10 days from now).
If I don't have your app when my mail comes on the 14th, you won't be on this hunt. On the morning of the 15th, I'm putting whatever I have in the mail to send to Barbara for processing.
Still plenty of spots available on this hunt, as we're only a touch over halfway to the 50 hunter cap. There's a LOT of property to hunt, and as anyone can tell you, you won't have to be crowded, even if we have 50 guys out there.
I have received two more requests over the last couple of days, and those will go out tomorrow. I have also managed to accidentally scrub all of my JHO email for the past week, so if you sent me anything you might want to re-send it.
I just spoke to Barbara down at the ranch, and she said this lingering weather has keep things fairly green down there. Not counting on it still being green when we arrive, but the pigs should be fat and happy! Let's get 'em!
The rules are pretty clear about no ATVs, and they also say that any vehicle you bring must be registered and insured.
I understand that the Rhino is sort of a hybrid, but I'm pretty sure the ranch would still consider it an ATV. You're welcome to give them a call to verify if you feel that it's worth it.
Honestly, if you've got a decent 4wd vehicle you'll be good on 98% of the roads at Tejon...especially by Memorial Day. Actually, a 2wd with a little clearance will get you around almost anywhere you'd be legal to drive.
Just have to go buy 3 lbs. asada, and some cold silver/blue/red cans at the grocery store.
Me and my buddy are leaveing Thursday at 2100 from Buena Park and are going to be sleeping in his trailer at the Flying J for the big Friday breakfast.
See you guys there.
Oh yeah, I have to buy Hronk some Midol I think he might have a tummy ache or something.
Tejon, even with my injuries and pain, is such a nice country to hunt. In fact, you have to fight the temptation to just sit there and watch the view, marvel at the wildlife and look how the carpet of yellow wild flowers ripple in the wind. But beauty can be deceiving. So look out and be safe. We don't want anymore listing in Speck's "wall of pain".
I wish you were going buddy. I'll try to take good notes, so I can tell the story as It actually happened. It will be almost as good as being there. Hopefully I'll have a 45/70 story to tell.
Hey folks... anybody who hasn't already hit the road, make sure you have current insurance info for your vehicle before you get here tomorrow. A few of you have sent expired insurance info.
