Wow!....what a rush. First of all I'd like to thank Speckmisser for organizing this hunt and for putting up with my abusive schedule to accomodate me and my buddy. Also thanks Spectr17 for coming out to let us in the gate at 5pm on Friday. I will repay you guys someday.

Also thanks to the guys who tipped us to head down into Squirrel Canyon, not sure who you are by name, but you know who you are if you spoke to the only two asians that were in the crew. Although we made two attempts to go there, we never made it far enough and never saw what Squirrel Canyon looks like. Every time we would go in about a mile from the main road turn off and dense fog would move in making visibility no more than 20 yards and we would back out and head to another part of the ranch where it was less foggy.

For some reason the pig hunting god have been putting I and my buddy in the right spot at the right time but in the wrong situation. It was our first hunt in Tejon Ranch and I am amazed on how beautiful the ranch is and how much game animals we saw. Our drive around to get to know the lay of the land on Friday evening led us to two different groups of pigs. We planned to stake out the spots during prime hunting times. Everytime we would hunt the spots from first light til about 11am and evening hunt til last light and no pig would show up. As soon as we jumped back in the truck to do some driving around in the mid afternoon or heading back to camp after the evening hunt, then all of sudden, a bunch of pigs would run out infront of the truck on full speed into the thick stuff. It happened like this 4 different times throughout the whole weekend. We finally discovered a spot on Sunday afternoon that we were almost sure an evening hunt would put us into some pigs. We head out towards the spot on Sunday evening at 5am and before we got there, 4 pigs ran out across the hill. My buddy jumped out and took a shot a the only boar in the group as they were heading up a steep hill toward the chemise. The target looks small when shooting across a canyon at the top of their spine. We saw the dirt flew on the left of the pig. We beat the brush down to the next canyon over hoping to cut them off and ambush them but we found out they were way ahead of us and the hike back up to the truck was pain in the behind. The sky was sprinkling while we were hiking out and by the time we got back up to the truck, we were soaking wet and calling it quit. Hopped in the truck and making our way back towards camp when all of sudden we saw a big black snake moving through. We stopped and out with our rifles rested on an oak tree trying to both shoot on 3. Several times the count only went up to 2 and 3 never came. The fog was thick and our scopes were pretty fogged up from soaking in the rain. The pigs were moving in a constant pace and we were hot on their tail trying to work something out on 3. Pigs dropped down into a draw and up the other hillside as we approach directly across from them. Two pigs stands broadside under an oak tree at about 60 yards. On three......BOBOOM! and only one pig dropped. Well both of us shot at the same pig. Sounds like my shot went off first so I tagged the pig and rolled into camp. My pig was the last one to be hang and skinned on the skinning rack. Again thanks to Speckmisser for waiting us as we were the last one to roll out the gate. We got two pics of my pig on my buddy's camera. Will post them when I get it from him.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk or socialize with everyone. I stopped by the campfire the crew had going on Friday night. It was dark and couldn't make out any faces besides the one with the black cowboy hat on. I look forward to join the crew on the next JHO POR. Next time I'll be sure to write down some jokes for all you guys to laugh you butt off around the campfire. Oh and I didn't know there was a big pig pool being played. Otherwise I would have busted the butt off to find that biggun. I guess that's what I missed for being late. Oh well next time.

XD, bummer to hear that about your health, man! Hope all works out well. You're tough as they come, so I expect you'll be out there hunting with us again soon.

To all, great pix and stories! I'm loving the recap!

Hatchet, yeah that was the boomer. I let my little brother shoot the -06, so both pig killers got blood this weekend. Life is good.

XD:

For some reason, I'm not worried about you. We only met once, and from I gathered, you're a tough SOB. Go get fixed and you'll be back in no time. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

XD,
I think your last year's JHO Tejon hunt is a good testimony on how resilient you are....you were, and still are, the only guy I know who could hunt only months after dislocating a shoulder!!! Guys, FYI: he shot a nice boar last year while still in a sling...he could barely move his arm....STUD!!!
We'll be praying for a successful procedure with a speedy recovery!!

XD, good luck with the surgery. You'll be fine. Heck, you'll be stronger than most of us by the next day. Remember, it was me asking for breaks while we were dragging your pig up the hill.
