Jesse,
Nice to have met you at leggitt. I was waiting for stef to come by the camp site along with other JHO's to share some Elk steaks. I left 10/13 after crawling around the tunnels all morining on the 1st and waiting in the evening till dark with a few other guys. I heard the pigs in the tunnels but never saw them.

I change to area 25 for friday morning and crawled down this big canyon and imediately heard pigs in the bush. I think I may have pushed them out the other side. I followed 3 set of tracks into the bush until it was to thick to crawl around. So I side hill down few more fingers towards the bottom and came up. I Drove down to the river area and hike around and found some beds from that nite with rooting all around but no one is home.

I then change into 15 and sat till dark watching pigs leave 20 and crossing over to 19. The next morning I got back to the same spot and watch 3 deer walk into the creek where I watched the pigs disapear in the nite before, minutes later a herd of pigs came running out 1 behind another watching with my spotting scope seeing and average of 250lbs a pig. Then 1 huge pig following behind the herd about 60 yds. I'm guesing he's a boar.

Pros: saw alot of deer 3 bobcats, bunch of hogs and at night the stars was beautiful while sitting around the camp fire after a great dinner. I did take a shot a fat wiley coyote and missed.

cons: had a hunter drive right by while waiting for things to queit down after sun set which would be the best time for the pigs to start moving.

Went back to camp and pack it up calling it a succesful hunt with out the bonus pig.
will try again next week

Hey Jesse/Westy-
My buddy went out there today and got 2 out of the same area this morning at about 7 am.

Westy- they were in the canyon you said you heard squealing and pigs making noise yesterday.
Right below where you were watching those two canyons. They were right in those beds
right below the big pines I showed you.

Maybe next time! Good to meet you both and looking forward
to the report from today and the pics.

Here are some Xdhunter's pig pix from FHL Area 16. Pig was shot before dark Jan.03'09 at 17:05 came out from Area 21 to root on Area 16. Said pig came out the same spot and same time where I shot my pig the previous night but unfortunately I lost my pig. But the good thing, lightning struck twice on the same spot.

I knew if XD was there, pigs would die. Glad to hear everyone had a good time and came out of the woods in one piece!

I'm seriously jonesing for my next hog hunt... chasing these little waterbirds just isn't the same.

Congrats Eric and Ed! That's a nice looking hog you got there. I wonder if one of the pigs you saw was one we saw during the Elk hunt on that road. We had one 50 yards off the road eyeballing us before he ran into the brush.

Cali,
If you are talking about the back door road, it might be the same pig.
The one Ed shot is much bigger.Got mine in the general area you are talking about, rooting under an oak tree for acorn or grabs.

I had ken not to far from me and hntboar on the hill side. Like I said gonna try again if that area is open. Could use some company.

Hey Pat-
To bad we did not get a chance to hook up this past weekend. Sounds like you and I could have used
some help. I did have my chances, but was not my day this time.

Stef,
I tried to call you after we hung up and ask more about inexpesive 44mags. If not I'll continue to use my 870 pump crawing in the tunnels.
