I might have to twist MULIES4EVER's arm to trek out for this one with me so we can beeline it in one shot out here. I hate driving that far in one shot!....sounds awesome!
As long as it's after October, I'm all for it. Sounds like a good deal.
The archery-only hunts will be limited to 12 hunters. Thems the rules, and we don't want to overrun the area anyway. Sounds like this one will fill up fast, so as soon as I get the solid info, I'll post it up and get this thing rolling.
We may very well have to make it two hunts, or direct the "overflow" into one of Tejon's regularly scheduled archery hunts.
Dates still TBD, although it sounds like a winter hunt might be manageable.
Why is this also approx. $400 - with much lower success rate? Yes, we take up the weekend, but there will be less pigs harvested. Any comments, Speckmisser?
I am not saying that it is unfair. It is the same price as a rifle hunt. Rifle hunt success is about twice as high compared to bow hunting. So, you are taking less animals off the ranch.
I think the ranch technically wants all pigs off the ranch, though they make a bunch of money off them, so in their minds bowhunters take less, so in that thinking they might raise the price for bowhunters, because just ask them, they want them pigs gone, he he.
I am new to Tejon hunting, but I doubt they want all the pigs gone. Why would they only let you take one pig a weekend, if they wanted to wipe them out?
I was mocking what I am told is their answer if asked about the pigs, that they want them gone, but obviously they are their hottest commodity.
From what I saw in this area las weekend, you will see pigs, everyone saw pigs the first morning, it is getting them figured out enough to get within striking distance with a bow that is the problem. Also I believe the only gun hunters allowed in there are in a small area for the handicapped hunters, and that area is rather small, and I would guess not used a lot by those gun hunters, so it is possible, had I held up my end One Track and I would have been 100% for the two of us, but I dropped the ball.
A weekend of hunting @ $400 is a deal to me on a place like Tejon. If you think that they are making a killing killing pigs buy some stock - it is a publicly traded company. In the last year it has gone from a high of $60 to $41 today.
I'd be interested too. Just finished the last hunt with Don and came up dry. Gotta try my luck again. Keep us posted....my partner wants a re-match too......
