Count me in for any hunts between turkey & duck season : mid-May to late Sept. Probably can round up 1 or 2 more hunters.

Never been Pig hunting, but would like to try. Treat this as a general interest response for now.

Thanks for organizing this!

I would be interested in both years if the date(s) work for me. Might be able to get one other.

I'd most likely be in with one or two others depending on the date.

Can a hunter shoot a second pig? If so what would be the cost?

I'd be interested in Spring '04. I hope the pictures of this weekend (March POR) will convince some of my loser buddies (+2) who didn't go this weekend to go as well.

This hunt was absolutely superb. Tejon can't be beat, and IMHO, if you work it, you are highly likely to get a pig.

Hi all,

Just an update. Tried to talk with Barbara this weekend, but she was pretty busy. We're going to follow up at the first of next week and iron out the details.

As of right now, I'm thinking that the 1st Annual JHP Pig Hunt will be next year, probably late Spring. After dealing with the weather this weekend and seeing what it did to the roads and access, I think we should look at a date when the rain has mostly stopped for the season. I'll have to wait until I meet with Barbara and Don to get a firm date, though. So we're looking late Spring 2004.

Where can I find out more information? Never tried pig hunting before, but If you guy are willing to put up with a rookie from WI I am interested. Sounds like a lot of fun and I would finally be able to put some faces with the names.

Docapi,

We LOVE rookies.

Seriously, just keep an eye on this thread until we get the dates. Once I do that, I'll probably start up a new thread in the Events section.

This is in reply to EVAN III.... A bow hunter usually spots game at a distance and requires time and quiet to get within the 30 yds that most believe that is Max. range on Hogs... This weekend I spotted 12 hogs rooting and "goofing off on a steep hill side at about 350 yds below a small 1 track road that looked to have had no travel since the rain started. I was able to get within 70yds when a vehicle showed up in the spot that I 1st saw the pigs. All 4 immediatly jumped out and started firing at the animals. Even though I was not in camo and in the semi open terrain, they never saw me until I yelled. I guess it was no ones fault but I was pissed that the ones that I saw shoot had already filled their tags on Friday. I was in no danger but was a little un nerved with rounds hitting just 70 yds from my position. They immediatly left not only the hill side but packed up and left the ranch. This was Sat. morning.....hronk

hronk-
sounds like those sportsman were party hunting. how considerate of them to fill the tags of their friends who probably had overslept or gone home early. I hope you reported these guys, cause it sounds like they cost you a whole lot of pork for your freezer.

I'd be in for '04. '03 is a faint possibility, but I t may work too.

Raully- Tejon ranch is No.of Los Angeles about 75 miles. Look up gorman or lebec on a map or California and you have the area.

tnctcb,

I'm sure someone could work that out for you. I won't volunteer anyone, and of course this is all ethereal until we get a solid date and commitment.

Just to reiterate... we're looking at late spring, 2004. If you want to do a hunt this year, I'd suggest signing up for one of the remaining PORs.

Somebody asked about a second pig. During the regular POR, you can only take one pig. The Turner hunts allow you to take a second pig at an additional $200. Not sure which format our hunt will take...that really depends on the outcome of my discussion with Don and Barbara.

I'm in for spring '04. I think the wife is starting to get a little pissed at all of these dates that are showing up on the calendar as hunting trips.
