Judo Points / Small Game Heads

Hi All:

I recently shot my first rabbit with a bow and I used a judo point. The arrow made an incredibly loud slap as it hit and the entry and exit holes were quite extensive. I didn't really expect the judo point to do so much damage but it made me ask if they (judos) are useful on turkeys. I haven't gone turkey hunting yet but as I'm starting to outfit myself for the fall season, I was wondering if I should not use a broadhead. Anyone try this yet? Also, how are the SGHs from G5? Are the results simmilar to judos?

Ahhhhhhh, no! Do not use a judo on a Turkey! I guess you could head shoot 'em, but you also neeed to check the regs! A rabbit is 'soft' skin and a Turkey has a ton of feathers, well armored! That and heavy boned, not worth the chance of losing a bird!!! JMO!!!

I totally agree with Ike. A judo point isnt going to get the job done on a turkey. Ive seen a turkey get pinwheeled with a broadhead and still fly off. I think a quality mechanical is probably the best head for turkeys.

Just like the two posts above.....Judo's are not the ideal broadhead for turkeys, but to be honest......i know of two guys

that use Judo's on turkey, they both took nice birds early in the year w/ neck shots.
Don't take a body shot..........it doesn't work, i mean i heard it won't penetrate the feathers.

not the most ideal head to use, but seen the aftermath of the new teken II this weekend on a pig.

i realy like what i seen, and i am sure they are what i am using for turkey this year

Pigig, I like the 'new' Tekan myself, looks good......It got great reviews from 5-Shot (ArcheryTalk), smoked most of all the other mech's......

Well Armored, here's well armored.
Gonna have to disagree with you all on this one. Last year I shot a 10-15# Armadillo

with my bow set at 65# with a regular judo point (not the g5 SGH) and it knocked a silver dollar sized hole going in and on the underside (shot from above into the thick part of the armor on the back) where it pinned it to the ground. So I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you all. Remember the judo style points deliver more of a shocking trauma and less cutting. I'd say go for it, after seeing turkey fly of after pass thoughs with a broadheads, why not?

do not get me wrong i think the judo is a great head, the problem with turkeys are the feathers act like a shock asober and soak most of the KE on impact mostly do to the thickness of the outer feathers. i smoked one last spring but shot it on the upper neck and and it did not go 3 feet. but for thin skin animals i do not think you can buy a better broad head

It comes down to what you want to do.....Shoot, you can kill anything with a field point! Is it right? Sup to you on that one!!!

I have a few Tekans in my quiver just itching to be launched at something.

Hopefully they will find thier mark and do the job.

I thought too that I would just head shoot a turkey with my judo Wrong. I hit low right in the middle of the breast arrow sank in about half way from what I could tell. Bird flew off with arrow and I never did find him.

I feel if it had been a broadhead he would of flopped on the ground dead.
