I glad I signed up for the North Area.

I'm sure with all that Ham Slam action all the pigs (that didn't check out at the gate) fled to the North Area.

I'll be flying down to hunt with my son, Muskeg Jr, on the june 11th / 13th POR. We will be camping out.

Looking forward to the trip.

You're gonna have a great hunt!

The hogs are there, and with the long break between the last POR and June, they ought to be a little relaxed. Not...
<

But you ought to have a good time anyway!

Good huntin', and share the pix when all is said and done.

I left a message for Barbara Friday and on her recording it said the south side was sold out and there was a few spots left on the north side.

Get you butt in gear if you want in for the hunt.

Hunt is 6/11-6/13

Good luck Johnnie and Jr

Thanks Jesse .....

I'm sure it will be a good time and a nice Hog would just be iceing on the cake.

I wished I could have made the JHO hunt but it just couldn't work out that way. So we decided to plan the June hunt.

Lets hope for some June Gloom cool nights and warm days.

I'm not in that good of shape right now and I figured the hunt would get me jump started for the fall hunting season.

We will be camped out in the North area camp.

Johnnie,

I might be up there that weekend also. I'll stop by and say hello and see if you need another person to bird dog for you.

Hey Muskeg, I will look you up when you are at the ranch. Looks like you might be in for some HOT days. I still think the hog hunting will be good.

My son Tod has a new dark grey Chev / extended cab. Grandson Derrick graduates 6th grade on Fri morning (in Saugus) then we are heading over to Tejon.

We will be in a couple yellow Eureka tents.

Lets hope for some cooler days. Maybe some clouds on Sat.

It has rained 8 days or so straight here and I'll be glad to see a little sun. But I guess I'll leave the long johns at home and probably the rain gear.

See ya soon ...... Johnnie

Dang,

I'm getting all antsy to get back up there again! Johnnie, you might want those long johns. Shoot, it might get all the way down into the 40s at night.

Besides, they make good sweat rags... quite absorbent.

I'll be up north that weekend, grabbing snails off the rocks, but nothing is as cool as a good Tejon hog hunt. I'll be thinking about ya'll, and looking forward to pics and stories.

Hey, ElkRon... was hoping you'd have a chance to drop in at the Ham Slam. How'd your guided group do?

Hey Speckmisser, Our guided hunts went well. All hunters scored on nice hogs. I did want to stop by for a visit I know it was a super good time. However, the nights are so short now, when we feed the hunters and clean up after the evening hunt its already 11:00 and we are up by 4:00. I just could not make it happen. Next time for sure. You might email me I have some ideas for your next JHO Ham Slam.

Elkron

P.S. I did pop in at check-in for a bit. Don was giving his little talk.

Wow! Ya'll were fed and cleaned up by 11:00?

Heck, I think I was just starting supper at 11:30 on Saturday night (nice work on the elk roast, Fritz). I didn't get cleaned up until sometime Monday morning.

Guided hunters have "the life"!

I'll drop you a note. Definitely open to suggestions and ideas.

I arrived just as Don was finishing. I thought I saw you at the office, but it's been so long since I saw you in person, I wasn't sure if it was you or not.

Speck .....

You might as well come on down.

I am in Seattle right now on my way to Burbank.

Looking forward to the hunt.

I'm sure the warm weather and the altitude will pound my ass.

Will the .338 speak? Will there be Hog Blood on the SoCal tundra?

Johnnie,

Sure wish I could make it on another one this year. I love hunting down there... something about that place. The fact that I can get hogs there is a plus too.

Ya'll have fun, let us know how it goes and post up the pix when you all get home!

Good luck up there guys. You will have a blast. A few of my buddies will be on the north side, Steve and Mike. Mike is the one with the nice jeep that pulled Speck off the side of the mountain. They have never hunted the north side. They are good guys and love to lend a hand when needed. If you can lend them some scoop on the north, I'd be grateful. They will either be in a very nice Jeep or a white F150 4 door.

Y'all have fun!!!! Dang!!!!

Best of luck to all of you. It should be a nice weekend. Word of advice though, watch out for those rattlers as a coworker of mine pig hunts on a ranch close to Tejon and both of his buddies dogs were bit last weekend. The dogs are doing fine but his wallet has lost alittle weight. GO GETEM.

My weekend just opened up so I called Barbara today and she had a spot open for the North side so I jumped on it.

I'll be in a black Cherokee.

Well .......

Can you say TOO HOT ...... It must have been around 100 (or close) on Sat and hotter on sunday. It was even way hot up on top of Winters Ridge.

On the North side when we left yesterday afternoon there were 13 (i think) taken by the 48 hunters that hunted. Only a couple hunters were staying to hunt the Sunday evening hunt.

When we talked to Ron the South side had almost 75 hunters for about the same kill. That kill might have went up by a few on Sunday.

The Hogs were hanging tight to heavy cover and not moving much, at all. Many hunters never saw a hog (except for the few that were hanging in camp).

It was just too hot to get out and pound the brush, for this Alaska boy. Actually we did some and found plenty of sign but no action.

I did have a "close encounter of the Mountain Lion kind" on Fri evening. Actually 3 grown cats. One at 10 or 15 yards that bolted when I yelled and the second was at 20 yards and just stood in the triail looking at me when the third slowly walked down the trail, soon joined by #2. It made for an interesting walk down the trail in the twilite after the heart pounding sceene.

Still had a great hunt and I am looking at the Dec POR (if I don't draw Arizona Elk or Whitetail).
