Id rather do it as an overnighter anyways. I like camping, sounds great. You think the 30-30 will knock em down? It's the only gun I got.

Ev:

If you prefer lever actions, I've got a .356 Winchester and a 45/70, both with a lot more punch than the 30/30. You can use either one. I'm going to bring a bolt-action Win .300 Mag.

Went over last weekend and found a small ohana unit in upper kaumana and secured the lease. School starts on January 14th, so I'll be over about a week before. As soon as I get settled I'd love to head out somewhere and get some meat. My girlfriend bought me a meat grinder for xmas. So I'll be putting that thing to use. We are going to live in the last group of houses up Saddle road, in between the 7 and 8 mile markers. I can't wait

Ev:

If you have a moment, read my bull hunt posting further down the forum. I hiked in the Morita Camp trail on Sat AM and out on Sun PM. Got a nice bull and saw 12 shootable hogs. Muddy and nasty on the trail. What's really neat about this hunt is that you leave from mile marker 16. That's only 8 miles from your new house. Can you imagine that? Only a 10 minute drive to the trailhead for some of the best big game hunting on the planet.

Looking forward to some hunts with you if you don't mind hunting with a grizzled old goat.

Doc,

Just a complement. For an old goat in the 50ish category you are doing fine by most standards as one would consider it a very excellent age since your success rate is way the heck up there.
I was looking at my topo software on Morita trail head seems to be at 5'190 ft lat N19'3623 W155'733 ' -19.57 miles and should take an average of 33 minutes as a rooster flys. How are in have you been walking in before seeing these wild Vancover bulls. Best of luck to you and Ev on a successful hunt. I am currently working on the details with my sister on a good date. I'll keep an eye on future updated successful hunts. Happy Holidays.

Wish I were 50-ish. Will be 60 in 5 months. The hike in on the Morita Camp Trail is published at 2 1/2 miles, but it is easily a 3-hour hike under the best of conditions. Let me know when you are coming over to visit in Hilo. Lots of prime hunting within an hour or two of where you'll be staying.
