I'd like to get in on the Tahone Pig-o-rama next year too, how do I make that happen?[/b]
Stay tuned, USMC. I should get the dates for the next one sometime in late August or early September. As soon as I do, I'll post them up and we'll get the ball rolling. Sign-ups usually start about six months prior to the event itself.

One note, if you want to hunt it (Tejon) next year you'll need to shoot non-tox ammo...something like Barnes TSX. They're releasing three new bullet weights for your 22cal this year, including a 70gr that ought to be OK for hogs. That's still pretty danged light (too light for my tastes), but do-able if you wait for the right opportunity.

Right on, thanks Speck. And thanks for the info on the new bullets, although when hunting at Tejon I would probably use the 30-06.

Welcome to JHO Josh!

Nice pics of some good country. A friend of mine is an LA fire captain. Cant remember if he's city or county. His name is Tom Haus. Know of him?

Hey Frosty,

Yep thats Ralph. Actually funny you posted a picture of the landcruiser, its in my garage right now getting all new wiring. Dude, I have been up that hill somany times and this is literally only the second time we didnt see pigs. But I have it figured out, seems like we go up the day before and camp in the cabin, being carefull not to make alot of noise or hike around alot. Pick a spot, and the next morning about 4am go setup at that place and just wait. Pigs everytime, but be carefull cause there are mountain lions. Ralph had one stalk him one time. I know Ralph was a scout sniper, but he almost lost to that cat.

Welcome to the JHO fraternity Josh. The pigs are probably being mostly nocturnal this time of year. If you have water on the property that might be a good place to wait and ambush in the late afternoon.

I dunno. Two weeks ago during the JHO/Tejon hunt the hogs were out and about pretty late in the morning, and were out and moving again in the early afternoon. Folks were seeing and shooting hogs as late as 0930, and as early in the afternoon as 1500. The wild oats are exploding up there, and everything is feeding hard on them.

Last weekend, the moon was full and that jammed up the movement. Hogs were still out, but a lot harder to find.

I'd expect that this coming weekend or the next would be prime time to be back up on those ridges. The hogs are there, and they'll be moving.

Spec,

The terrain on Josh's ranch looks a lot different than the pictures that I saw on the Tejon hunt last week. I couldn't believe how green and tall the grass was in many of the pictures. I hunted on a ranch near Lake Cachuma in mid April and it was already getting very dry and the hogs were out no later than 9-9:30 and wouldn't come out again until after 5.
