Another great hog hunting trip. 4 for 4. Three nice sows and a huge boar. I took about a 120# sow on an ambush at 165 yards. For those of you interested in this sort of thing there was a complete pass through with a 180 gr Hornady from my 30-06. Shot went into the shoulder, through both lungs, and just close enough to the spine that the shock knocked the pig right over (thankfully no ruined backstrap). She was small but exactly what I wanted as my freezer space is limited. My buddy killed the big boar. Body size was only about 250# but it had nice teeth. About 3 inch lower cutters, but the unique thing was it had upper whetters that were just as long. Really looks like a mean nasty boar. Bad thing is that it only has teeth on one side. The other side is broken off. The 2 other sows were about 150# and were taken incidentally with handguns while hunting quail. The quail hunting was a bust with only one small covey seen and no shots. All in all it was an awesome trip as always up there. I'll have to have someone post them pics for me as soon as I get them.

Bubba, we hunted with Mustang Guide Service. I have hunted with them about 10 times and we always have a great time and see lots of pigs. This trip was no exception. Speck, I'll email you the pics to post as soon as I get them.

Congrats. I have been hunting with Mustang Guide Service for about 5 years now. we go every April. Frank is a good guy, so are his guides, Keck and Mike. I'm suprised you didn't see more quail. My only complaint with them is that our hunts are uaually over too soon. Is DR DEATH still running? (LOL) He needs to buy a new truck.

Dr. Death still runs but needs a new rear brake drum. Funny you say that, every year we take side bets whether the truck will still be running or not. Been making that bet for 8 years and it still keeps running. Kek (part billy goat) and Mike are great guys for sure. I was really surprised we didn't see more quail too. I've hunted every spring (usually May) for about the last 8 or 9 years with Frank and we always see hundreds of quail. This was my first Fall hunt up there and we booked it so we could hunt quail too. No such luck but we had lots of fun.

I've hunted with Frank several times and always came home with hogs. I Plan on going again next spring.

SDHNTR...........Congrats (again) on what surely sounded like a fine trip for you guys.

When you post up your pics (or before), you GOTTA tell these guys about your unique new method for keeping hogs at bay while you're waiting for your friends to show up.

In fact, methinks you should consider changing your JHP handle to something now more appropriate, such as "Dances with Pigs" (no, that won't work, it's a little ambiguous, might get you a bad rep.)....OK, how Hogholder? Or Deathgrip? You get the drift......I'm sure you can think of something appropriate.

So take a minute and please tell the guys about your story about that one hog in the brush. Pretty great little story. You're a madman, SDHNTR............

Ok, Ok. Since Freedivr2 brought it up I'll elaborate. We had taken two pigs at this point. One Friday night (mine) and one Saturday morning. We then wanted to go bust some quail. We went down to hunt the river bottom. We took the dogs just in case we ran into some hogs but also to help find downed birds. We left the rifles in the trucks and took our shotguns. Three of the five of us brought pistols to fend off the chance charging boar. Well we had worked about a mile of river bottom only busting one small covey and had no shots due to the thick brush. Thick brush is actually an understatement. Its impossible to penetrate. All of a sudden brush starts breaking in front of us and all hell breaks loose. The dogs go crazy, the pigs go crazy. The dogs split off on two pigs about 140-150# and bay both up. One gets bayed up in the middle of the river on a sandbar. We take that one first since it was in the open and easier to get to. One .45 in the ear and that one is done. Then we run up to the other bay. I was the first one there and the bay was in a tiny clearing about 6 feet square and surrounded by head high brush. There were little tunnels that the pigs had made through the brush. I had to belly crawl to get through a tunnel and into the clearing where the bay was. As I come up on the pig it starts to take off through another tiny tunnel and out of the clearing. If it made it out of the clearing and into the brush we may have lost it. So I grabbed the pig by the tail and held on. Took all the strength I had to keep it from making it into that brush. After a little bit of dancing around I got one hand ahold of a hind leg and I could control the pig a little better. Then the guide and my buddies show up. One of my buddies crawls up through the tunnel in the brush. We get the dogs off, and one .40 cal in the ear and funs over. It definitely was not the purest form of spot and stalk hunting, but it was one hell of an adreneline rush. Like no other thrill I've ever had. All that barking, pig squealing, and yelling in such a confined space made it quite exciting. I was shaking for several minutes afterwards. So there you have it. I wasn't going to post this in fear of starting an inflammatory thread on hunting with dogs. I prefer to spot and stalk mine too but I must say this was far more exciting and was definitely an experience I'll remember forever. Don't knock it until you try it. I hope this does not start a war.

LOL...Great story SDHNTR...A few years ago, Frank had a DeathGrip on my 200 + pound sow I shot up there in San Ardo. After I saw him grab that big ol sow, I knew he was crazy....lol...

Why dont you tell everyone about your "pistol hog" you got with Frank? How many times did you reload that Redhawk? LOL That was a great hunt. Did you get the yellow off your hunting pants yet? Brett threw away his back pack... LOL

You had to bring that up didnt ya.....I needed to put some rounds through the redhawk anyway...And as far as the pants go, I threw those away as soon as I got home. That dog must of really liked me.
