A bit off topic, but how's hunting in the "Lucky Country". I have been there 3 times and never had the opportunity to do any hunting. I noticed you are from Canberra.

Within an hour and a half of my place I can hunt 3 deer species as well as pigs and of course the usual non-edible game like foxes and cats. All of this on millions of hectares of public land that cost me $80 a year to be licensed for. 2hours away I can be in Victoria and hunt for $45 a year. If it wasn't for the panicky gun grabbers and animal libbers we could really call ourselves the lucky country when it comes to hunting. I would be out looking for more pork today if it hadn't come over so cold and miserable.

Jindydiver thank you so much for the knowledge! I'll be saving all this and referring to it as I learn the unit. I really appreciate you taking the time!

What's real cool is when you scout an area... marked some good waypoints that showed promising sign.... then you go home... and explore more of the surrounding area near that spot in an overhead View w/ Google Maps or Google Earth... then in the BaseCamp software you can hand-enter a new waypoint where you copy+paste in the lattitude/longitude of the point of interest you then saw nearby that area in the overhead satelite view... in BaseCamp you can also choose a different icon graphic to plot down on that point in the display, making it easier to differentiate from other point you might have also saved somewhat nearby. What's great about doing it this way is that perhaps while you were there... you were curious about exploring off into a particular direction... but perhaps your amount of water wouldn't support the added distance that particular day due to heat? Or you were with a group and needed to stick together as it may have been your first time there.

Sometimes for that new point of interest you want to checkout... in the satellite view... you may find there is an easier, more direct route to get there if you perhaps start-off coming in from a different starting point altogether. Just be sure to pay attention to the topo lines on the map which can indicate the steepness of the incline/decline of the lay of the land... and plan your route so as to avoid the rough ascents/descents as much as possible. This is especially important for the hot weather of the summer months.
