Wow Kurtish, Pretty active shed hunting. That was a sick shed that dad found. Like all the pictures, looks like familiar ground. take it easy. doug

sheds: 27 +1 piece of a shed

Anything I find not attached to the skull counts as a shed in my book.If I find an old dead buck skull then a broke off piece of antler next to it no I don't count that.

Great shed'n!

Looks like it doesn't take long for those little antler munchers to do some damage.

Great looking country to hike around in.

I had the last 7 day's off work and was able to get out a little while each day except on easter. Things have really slowed down for me and i only came up with a few horns all week. I walked a thin strip of pines that i found a old one in about 2 or 3 weeks ago. There was alot of fresh sign but i only picked up this 8" spike

I was pleased with spotting this one.....looked like a stick but the binocs confirmed it to be bone. Here's a little closer view

On saturday the 7th i walked the ridge above my house. I had a great day walking through some beautiful deer woods but didn't pick up any horns on the ridge. I did spot 3 bucks that were starting to throw some new growth off their head. After gridding all the likely bedding points i started to make my way back to my house. I was about a 100 yards away from home when i walked up on this little 2 point in my pasture. I had set my goal this year at thirty sheds and i was pleased to pick up this little guy to meet my goal.

On easter sunday i hid a few sheds in the yard and put on a little shed hunt for my neice and nephew. They were running around in circles and wouldn't have seen a shed unless i had painted it blaze orange. After a short while of that i convinced them that they had to walk slow and look long and hard through the stubble of last years flower garden. With a little help they were able to each find their first sheds ever.....they were planted but i figured it might be a good way to sew the shed hunting bug into their budding little lives. Didn't have my camera...and i was kickin myself for it...they were two happy little shedders

Monday the 9th i spent a solid 6 hours walking some new ground without any horns to show for it. On tuesday i had a meeting at work for our annual reclamation project and one of my co-workers showed me some of the singles that he had found. A couple real dandy 3 1/2 yr olds and one side from a 160 class 4 1/2 yr old. After the meeting i headed out in hopes of scoopin up a possible match to the nice one's he had found. When i pulled into the farm and headed to an area that i hadn't covered yet i walked up on this nice rooster phesant and snapped a few pics

I walked for 4 hours without any pickups so i decided to drop my last treestand that was still in the timber. After droppin the stand i figured that i had enough energy to check one more spot. I came across this guy about 50 yards from where i had parked my truck. The squirrels were awfully hard on this one.....no tines left but a pretty nice hefty base on him. This was also my first find in a cornfield ever so i was atleast happy to know that i can stumble across them in the corn

I'm booked up with work for the next three weeks and with turkey season just around the corner i probably won't make it out any more so here's my finds from the year minus the two that i gave to my niece and nephew.

My first attempt at a stack

It's been a great year for me and i really apprechiate all of everyone's kind words and encouragement. Everyone's journals and posts helped to keep me out there searching even when my legs were telling me to head home. It's been great to share stories and pics with all of you.

Thanks fellas! Yeah i hear ya BigRacks, i'll definitely be keeping my eye's peeled for any sheds during turkey season, and this next week i'll be planting 10,000 trees at work. Hopefully i'll run into a few sheds while planting...it would be pretty sweet to pick up some sheds while i'm clocked in at work. Now that i think about it i probably won't be a very productive tree planter due to wandering eyes

Well, BigRacks was right...i just couldn't quit cold turkey. I ran into a good friend on saturday who was going to head out to his grandmothers farm and do a little sheddin. It's in great deer country so i was pumped to get to go along and cover some new ground. We pulled into the homestead and the first thing i seen was this really nice 5 pt about 150 yards away in a picked wheat field

another angle

I actually felt bad about seeing this one first since Jason would've found it if i hadn't been along so i let him keep it but i'm adding it to my total for the year

About 1 minute and 50 yards later i picked up this little 3 point just off of the edge of the field.

We then continued to grid the woods above the big 5 point but came up empty handed there. As we worked our way back to where we had begun i stepped within 15 yards of where i found the small 3 point and found the match laying.

We were starting to run low on light so we made one sweep across the field and i came across this heavy little 4 point.

That was the end of our finds for the day but we were both happy to have done so well in just a two hour walk. Jason ended up with two small sheds and i picked up 4 on the day.
