Went up to my ranch yesterday with my son to see if any hogs were out celebrating Boxing Day. We split up and I ran into a herd of 40+ pigs grazing down a hillside. Did a commando crawl to a fence line no more than 70 yards away from the group and took aim with my 27 0 at a good sow that was broadside to me. I shot and could hear the bullet hit but she took off running. A second one stopped in the same spot so I took another shot and again heard the bullet hit. Chaos as the rest of the herd took off running. I found a blood trail and found the first sow - she’d made it 100 yards despite a full pass-thru of the bullet right thru the chest. Couldn’t find the second one. My son took a shot as part of the herd ran past him but missed. A nice 165 lb sow, lotsa fat. Still a lot of acorns on the ground, it’s been a big crop this year. For the first time I quartered her and brought the pieces back to butcher on my own - am just gonna cut it for jerky meat so shouldn’t be too hard. 57CB5598-DCDB-4477-8615-925DDD95D837.jpeg

70 yards is pretty close!! You think you could take one with slugs? I don't have too much funds these days so was thinking a rifled choke and a mid grade shotgun scope for pigos
