Went up there at day break to hunt over my usual wallow.I ran into a hiker and two mountain bikers on my way in,they said that they had seen about a dozen hogs roaming the hillside right around the area where the wallow that I hunt over is,so I got really excited and started to move that way, thought I would be sneaky and tried to come in from below. When I was coming up the hill I had three coming down my way from what I could see.Coming up from below was a bad decision because it was really steep and very thick, needless to say I never could get a shot off.

After they ran off I tried my best to follow but they were on a mission to get out of dodge,so I headed back to my spot to see if the otherones were still around. When I arrived there was 1 sow still there she was about 150-175lbs. I then reached for my rangefinder and s@#$ I had left it in the truck.I estimated the range at 35yrds,she was standing broadside pulled back and let the arrow fly.My shot passed right under her belly. After the shot she bolted like a bat out hell.I was really pissed off that I missed but hey thats hunting right!!Below is a couple of pics of the wallow and a print of the sow that I missed.I maybe heading back up there next weekend if I don't go up to MNF to fill my bear tag, depending on the tag quota.

Don't feel to bad I once shot over a pigs back with a scoped rifle at maybe 65 yards. Just getting that close to a public land hog is quite difficult. keep on trying.

Don't feel bad...last year at Sonoma, around this same time, I missed one at 20 yards

Hey, you saw hogs. That's 95% of the battle there. You won't make the same mistake next time.

Great job on seeing the pigs out there. Nice pictures of the wallows too. I've never seen such a thing before. Heck, I didn't even know pigs live in such a place like that.

Still was fun I'm sure. Can't get one from the couch. Better luck next time.

Keep on 'em, Sonoma is a tough hunt but there in there. Opening morning last year 20 minutes in I launched one over a pigs back because I left my release in the truck in my haste to get into the woods and tried shooting fingers.

My buddy and I are thinking about heading up Friday am. We haven't been up yet so we need to register. He has a 19' hard hull inflatable. We were just going to go up, register, and do some scouting and glassing that hopefully would end up being spot and stalk. From reading the thread you have a pretty good chance on getting back on this bunch. Good luck! Don't forget the rangefinder this time!
