Did I read this right that the February shotgun hunt is open to the general public? Ooops. Didn't see the rules attachment above the maps. Cool. Looks like that slug barrel I bought a couple of years ago will come in handy then.
A couple of quick comments before too may of you start showing up to scout.
•Remember that there are no trailers allowed at Yorty Creek.
•We can not pre-register anyone before November 21 because we just don’t have the permit stickers yet. Registration will be ongoing (Wednesday-Sunday) through hunting season so don’t worry about having to come to the park at specific time of the month.
That's it.
Joel
P.S.
Already bumped into a few of you scouting so the word is out! Those of you who have scouted my pin flag line near No Name Flat may be interested to know that the trail those flags represent will be named “Boar Scat Loop” for obvious reasons!
Good luck.
If I have a cartopper (kayak), will I be able to check in at the visitor center, drive up to Yorty to launch, and then leave my vehicle at Yorty overnight should I decide to camp at Skunk or Loggers, etc...?
Registration for Lake Sonoma hog hunts will begin on Nov 21 at 9:00 am at the visitor center. It will continue throughout the hunting season with the exceptions of Mondays and Tuesdays. Because you can not register before 9:00 on the first day you come, don’t plan on showing up early. Once you are issued your hunting sticker for your boat and the placard for your vehicle, you can self register each time you come out just like last year. That way you can be in the field by first light.
Remember to check in at the visitor center each time you come out. I will be very unhappy if I see a hunting sticker on boat and no record of that individual hunting that day!
I did get a question from a guy who wanted to know if he had to get a sticker for his kayak. The answer is YES. Put the sticker on any vessel that you will be using for hunting on the lake!
The reason is that the shoreline of the lake will be posted as off limits to all vessels that do not have: a hunting pass, are registered to camp, or are within shouting distance of their boats. (Other wise, it’s abandoned equipment and could be impounded)
This is kind of like nailing Al Capone for tax evasion. It’s a round about way to deal with poachers who are coming in by boat and not registering. It’s easier for us to find a boat on the shoreline than to hike up the hill to look for a camouflaged poacher who really doesn’t want to be found!

Hi all,
There have been changes to the Visitor Center Schedule for December. The Visitor Center will be opening earlier to accommodate hunters who need to register for this year. The hours now will be 6:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M Wednesday thru Sunday.
