speaking of Lake Sonoma ( already on my mind) are we going to get some updating this year for the wild pig hunting for 2010-2011 season?

I already called the office last week to ask if we were going to be able to hunt on moday's & tuesday's for this season because the administration office and visitor center is open 7 days a week now instead of 5. but the clerk was not sure yet she said it was up to DFG to decide that.

so i was wondering if any of our DFG forum members might know if we are going to be able to hunt mondays & tuesdays now that the park office is open 7 days a week. thanks.....tra

thanks DFG BEAR! it would be great to hunt seven days week instead of the 5, it makes total sense. it could possibley increase the harvest count and and spread us hunters out a little more over the week, to many hunters condensed over the 5 day set up and it creats lot of hunting pressure during the 5 day set up at L.S. that u guys now have, hunters everywhere on a daily basis it turns into a zoo at times.

hope u guys can hook it up, it be great! thanks......tra

DFG Bear,

Thanks in advance for checking. Seven day hunt seems to be an idea request for all hunters involved. How about this proposal: offer the shot gun hunters Mon & Tues. Bow and Archery hunters Wed - Sun? or just one of the week for the shot gun hunter? I'm sure there will be other ideas/discussions regarding this issue.

I'll see what I can do. The decision ultimately lies with the land management agency in these types of situations. DFG can only provide recommendations.

Remember, pigs respond to hunting pressure by going nocturnal, moving to unhunted areas, etc. A 7 day/week hunt isn't always the optimal situation, if you want to maintain or increase success. However, it will (as tra said) spread out hunters over the week, but that doesn't always equate to decreased hunting pressure.

So, I'll throw it back to you all. What do you want - increased success of harvesting a pig, or decreased chance of seeing other hunters?

if i was a wise lake sonoma boar i would be hanging out at Liberty Glen camp site tearin it up all niggt on mondays and tuesdays, then wed-sunady i be staying low and out of sight till monday and tuesday rolls around agian to tear it up without hunter pressure. my point is the hogs have us patterned on hunting them with the 2 days off and the 5 days on scheduale at l.s. and we need to change the patteren and hunt them on thier days off until they figure that out and all head to the cooley ranch for the rest of the season. just my 2 cents!.........tra

I'm for giving them two days of no pressure like ducks at the refuges. I know the walk ins can be more crowded esp on weekends but I also agree that constant pressure could push em off property resulting in less harvested.

i like giving them 2 days off. the crowds thin out after opening day anyways. there are only a few guys that really hit the lake hard. from what i can see, the rest of the hunters randomly show up and check out the area for hogs.

the year before last, i was there every wednesday after work..it got lonely sometimes :)

well Sancho i just set up a poll on the subject so u can vote and voice your opinon on that if u want my friend. what do wild pigs need days off for rest and prayer now?

shoot, last year they they scaled back the l.s. hunting area when they reconfigured boarders a little smaller so we lost space, so i think we need more time to hunt to make up for the smaller area to hunt......tra

good to hear from u JN, lets get together agian this year for a couple of days of hunting l.s. my friend! had a great exciting time last year for sure.

all the money time and effort we pig hunters have to go through to hunt pigs in this state is not a fair balance already, pigs get enough breaks already with the regulations of hunting stateland and privite land for whats considered and invassive destuctive animal of the state, their should be constent pressure till we eradicate them all or drive them out of the state.....tra

sounds like a game plan JN, look forwad to it.

just some more food for thought, if the whole reason that lake sonoma is trying to eradicate them is because their tearin up all the camp grounds and landscape.
so why would u let the pigs have 2 days with no pressure that they will take advantage and do as much damage as they can, so thats why i belive we should hunt them 7 days, more pressure less damage either if its by killing them or sending them packing. the whole idea is to keep them from doing any more damsge to the lake sonoma park camp sites and lanbscape, no rest no mercy for the wild pigs, time to let some arrows fly and put the hammer's down on them! i rest my case for now....tra

TRA- as DFG pointed out I think the theory would be that in order for us to eradicate more pigs we must be able to kill more pigs and if there is hunting pressure 24/7 the pigs will go nocturnal and less pigs will be killed. If we give them 2 days off or more then they "may" feel less pressure and thus not go nocturnal everyday and allow more hogs to be taken.

Maybe the true murderers of hogs at LS will chime in and give their 2cents as I am sure they know them much better than I.

i agree with u guys on not pressuring the pigs but the pressure of hunters with the 5 day set up really sucks. we should should at least give the 7 day idea a try for one season to see if the harvesting would be more or less.

i personally would always like every opertunety i can get when it comes to hunting period, just love being out in the woods piggies or not. have a great day!...tra
