Hi all...I have a Lake Sonoma report, and it is about a week old. A friend and I hunted Feb, 2-3 and got very wet. We left Sacramento at about 0230 on Monday morning. We arrived at the Yorty Creek boat launch to find a locked gate that did not open untill 0700. After the Ranger opend the gate, we were able to unload the boat and head out at about 0730 in a freeking downpour!

We hunted out of several boat camps, working our way above the camps to the private property line. The results? Lot of pig sign but no pigs spoted or heard...we did see some cool salamanders. Additioally, we hiked into some of the remotest areas of the lake only to find tons of sign but no pigs. Finally, on the tuesday night, we hiked back in on the south side of the yorty creek arm and set up on a hill looking over 3 canyons and next to private property with thick cover. The area we were in was rototilled for about a half of a mile--and there was a lot of fresh sign, even with the heavy rains. We stayed untill dark and were shocked we did not even see on pig! I two days we hunted very hard...and enjoyed some beautiful country.

I think with almost two months of hunting pressure, the pigs have gone almost completly nocturnal. On tuesday evening, I was able to glass across the lake and spot 4 hunters in diffrent areas. Based on our experince, on this hunt, I feel it is wise to make it up to Lake Somona on the opening week...perhaps this fall?

Pigig, what days will you be there and where abouts? I might skulk around in my red canoe, flag me down and say hello. Is this the last week? Good Luck, Mike

Didn't PIGIG get up there? Maybe he's still wringing out his gear? It sure did rain up there for a couple days.

well i just pryed my mask and snorkel off my face, just kidding
me and copperjohn came back on tuesday night just before the gods decided to change the face of lake nopig (sonoma) we went backto the place where i got a look a 6 pigs weeks before, and scoured the hillside with a micrscope. we seen nothing all day, so it was time for a nap under a nice grove of madrone trees as i fell asleep with a big chub of salamie in my hand i was awaken by a pigs fighting accross the valley from me.
copperjohn called me on my radio and asked was i alright because it sounded like a human getting his intestine removed through his a$$.

so we headed over to the ridge where they were and scoured that ridge but could not push anything out. the next day tuesday we were so worn out from monday we headed over past the marina and walked a few ridges and valleys then headed home with our tails between our leggs.

we did talk to a ranger that said it looked good for next september so be ready
