Lake Sonoma Hog hunt

First time there was last week. Always hunted public land.... spent three days there. Never have seen so much pig sign... every where !!!!!! Problem was it was almost 70 degrees durning the day. Did not see any pigs. Did see a ton of signs....... 686 hunter in there so far, only 27 pigs taken.....Any advise on how to get a pig there ? Thx ...

Although I've never hunted there, my advice would be to keep trying, hunt early and into the late evening hours.

Hey Hog. You have either find them going to their bedding areas are how to find them bedded down. Easiest way to fish the lake is with a boat. They usually average about one hog a week so 27 sounds about right. Good luck and Happy hunting

Time it for no moon. When there is a lot of pressure get out real early and make a beeline to the other side of where people are hunting and wait for them to drive them towards you. This has worked for me on public land a lot. Take advantage of them pushing.

I live ten minutes from the lake however I'm taken my 12 year old to get his hunter safety that weekend.

Where are you at Bambi? This may be my last go this year since I'm coaching baseball and its about to get into full swing.

I'm over in the San Ramon/Danville area. I'm a long time pig hunter, but a noob with archery hunting. I've shot a lot of targets, but never hunted with a bow.

I'm all set with the equipment now, just need someone to go with........ I don't know the Lake Sonoma area, so if you do that would be a perfect situation for me. :bounce-aqua:

Just been there...the hill side was tore up with pig signs!!!!... good luck!!!

I hunted at the Thumb camp site..... leave site and follow road (grass) to top of hill. The other side of the hill, one facing the boat ramp was tore up........ if you circle around the hill , in line with boat ramp.... many many wallows..... Good luck....

yes thats a good area, if you see rooting park and walk. I've taken a couple there, found em bedding in the scrub oaks. keep in mind pigs like to sleep on/in flat depressions on a hillside my thinking is they find flat spots so they don't roll downhill when asleep ;-) yes you can hunt the wallows but they pass through those areas. I prefer to find them eating or sleeping, they spend more time at those spots. thing about hunting any game is to walk walk walk walk and walk some more. learn the area like the animals do. the more you walk the better you know the area. good luck, wish I could be there. next year.

Thanks guys I will check those places out I usually hunt liberty glen area and hike back to the tip of the lake. Great country back there with some good sign, my buddy has seen some and we have heard some.
