What are you planning on hunting the hogs at Lake Sonoma with? Bows, Crossbows, arrows, broadheads, etc. Any must haves that you've learned to always take with you?

My bow:
-Pse Brute X compound, 29" Draw Length, 70 lb draw weight
-2 pin sight, top pin 25 yards and bottom pin 35 yards
-Easton FMJ arrows
-100 grain Rage 2 blade mechanicals
-TruFire edge foldback release

Crossbow:
-Barnett jackal, 150 lb draw weight, 315 fps
-Barnett headhunter carbon arrows
-125 Grain NAP Spitfire x-bow broadheads
-Hawke 3x32 IR Crossbow Scope

Must haves:
Always will have a rangefinder with me. Halo Rangefinder with angle intelligence.

The usual stuff in the pack but also drag straps, 1 gal ziplock (for liver), zip ties...after field dressing I use zip ties to close up the cavity to keep dirt out when dragging....baby wipes or field wipes, actually I've switched to septic safe wipes they will break down quickly and great after field dressing, but we should still pack em out.

Interesting thread! At least it's something to write about while waiting for the opener.
I have a Mathews DXT that I use to shoot 100 grain 3 blade Muzzys. My small quiver carries 4 arrows, 3 with blades, one with a Judo. My small backpack carries cotton pillow covers for the delicious liver and heart in addition to my dressing knife. I also throw in some Terry cloth towels for clean up. Cam straps are great to have. They drag, hang, cinch up, you name it. I also pack a small foam pad for sitting. And don't forget the camera and headlamp with fresh batteries. Sometimes I carry my binocs, about half the time. I don't think they are that necessary.
The fewer the pins the better. I have three. Close, medium, and far shots. In the heat of the moment I can draw, aim, and get a shot off. It usually works in those situations when the pigs are suddenly there. They are often suddenly there!

My boat and plenty of tissues to wipe the tears from my cheeks as I watch the pigs on private land.

Hunted Lake Sonoma Friday through Sunday, and did not see one pig, pig sign, or any evidence that they had ever been there. :)

On the plus side, it was frickin' cold at night.

I'll be there in Decembrrr to camp, will bring some whiskey just in case it gets real cold like this last weekend. Can you tell me who the taxidermist was for your avatar boar mount? Looking for a good taxidermist in Sonoma County.

Was there for the opener and YES it was FREEZING!!!!... Was on a big boar at 20 yards but he was in some brush and I didn't wanna take a chance at wounding it so I passed the shot... Was just awesome to be that close and have the big Boy snort and stare me down before it ran off... Good luck to everybody

The taxidermist is down in the King City area. I forget the name, but he did a good job. I killed that pig in 1999 on my second (guided) pig hunt with Tom Willoughby. He caped it and sent it out for mounting.

I hiked in this year with two other fellows, and we camped "in country" for 2 nights. I have an old Snow Lion 0 degree down bag that I bought new in the mid-70's. Top quality then, still kicking ass today. 44oz of high quality down fill. It weighs 4 pounds 7 ounces in the stuff bag, but I did not regret carrying it in and having it. I slept in my skivvies and was warm both nights, while my two companions suffered a bit because they bought cheap and went for lightweight bags that were optimistically advertised as 0 degree.

Do yourself a favor and bring a good bag and layers. They had whiskey, and it didn't help much. :)

What's up Bigbadboar. I met you at No Name one morning when it was raining last year. We walked out and hunted near bummer. Anyway, I recognized your picture on here. I'm going to start going soon, I have a pheasant card I need to fill first. Well, we'll see, I'm having a hard time staying away. Good luck, if I see you up there I'll say what up.
