The Nov 4-6 weekend will be the first weekend Sonoma is open after the deer hunts. There was some talk about this weekend on the other Sonoma thread but I thought I would start a new one.

Anyone interested in getting a few of us JHO'ers to go in Friday afternoon/evening and hunt for the weekend?

I'm up for it if we can get a few folks. I called the marina and they appear to be closed for the season so me being "boat challended" at the present time I'd have to tag along with someone or hike in daily.

Just curious on what the interest level is right now so I can plan some pig, duck, deer and elk hunts around the weekends of free time I have left this year.

A friend and I are talking about going up there that weekend. He's fishing for BASS at Clear Lake this week so I will confirm with him next week.

I'm hoping to be at the launch around 1:00 and in the water by 2;00
I can haul 6 guys and all thier gear I'll probably have two with me so if someone is there and wants to hitch a ride no problem your welcome to it I don't know where we'll campo were just gonna head out and scout the shoreline. Having never been there before I have no preference other than I agree with BDB's previous statement.

I assume you mean Friday at 1pm and gone by 2pm correct? I could be there by 1:30 and ready to roll in 10 mins! I don't know the areas that well, but many of the camp grounds are right on the water and probably pretty empty. Last time I was there, Kentuck and I hunted near skunk camp (you can see it on the map. Great location but I think a little recon with Ranger Joe might be in order to see where the pigs tend to be right now.

Just so you dont get surprised the 5th and 6th is the Junior deer hunt for Sonoma. So you will have 25 kids with rifles all over the place that weekend. Kind of surprised they are letting bowhunters out at the same time.

I just checked the regs to be sure and you are right about that! I am surprised it is not on the Sonama calendar. I just sent Rangerjoel an e-mail to be sure the pig hunt will still be on. I am fine with going even with the juniors there if everyone else is.

I can tell you from experience that having someone draw a bead on you with a rifled scope is second only to actually being shot at.
I have had the great displeasure of experiencing both while hunting public land.
If there are youth hunters in the area for a special hunt I will not be there!
if such is indeed the case I will push my trip out another week. Let the kids have there time there and not worry about my camoed hide crawling around.

The next 2 weekends after the 5-6th are also shot due to the turkey hunt. The next available weekend would be the last weekend in Nov.

there is a misprint on the calander for the November 5 and 6. It should have been marked as turkey only. However you can still come out if you want. (I just wouldn't reccomend it)

I saw this in the Turkey forum:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
FALL 2005 TURKEY HUNTS:
Liberty Glen: Junior Hunt: Nov. 12 and 13, 2005
Yorty Creek: Adult Hunt: Nov. 19 and 20, 2005[/b]

Are they still allowing pig hunters on the 4-6th (even though you wouldn't recommend it?

Thanks for the info

Well, hog hunter can still hunt on the 4th but it looks like folks are gonna bail due to the rifle hunters. I'll consider this hunt off for now since it looks like most don't want to compete with and/or be scoped by the rifle hunters.

Hopefully we can get another weekend together in Dec or even January. I am around on the New Years eve weekend and the wife is out of town so that one will work for me if anyone wants to skip the parties and hunt then.

I guess we'll have to wait until later to do a longer hunt. I might be able to make the 4th for a day hunt. We'll see.

Hey Kentuck, since it looks like a weekend of pig killing is out for the 4-6th, I think I'll be heading out for ducks with Huntin' Foo. Lets definitely try and get in a good weekend of hunting in Sonoma later in the year
