Lake Sonoma Opener - Anybody Score?

Bottom Line - I struck out. I spent the morning working my way through an area on the Dry Creek arm, lots of fresh sign, no pigs in sight, but by 0900 started running into lots of other pig pursuers. Time to move to another area.

While cruising around in the boat, we spotted a hunter sitting on a picnic table in the Buck Pasture campground, and another on the ridge between Buck Pasture and Old Sawmill (Can you say hunting in the closed area?). They were both in the same party. We gently informed them of that fact that they were in a closed area, both acted quite surprised. Not sure how they could get through the orientation and still miss that point. We gave them a lift to the Liberty Glen side and off they went.

After a practice round on the archery range I made a great evening hunt amid TONS of fresh sign but only saw a bunch of deer and a feral cat.

Was a great day to be out and I learned a bunch. Anyone else?

my hunting gear is piled up in my living room. i caught a timely cold, and sat it out for the weekend. i couldnt sneak up on anything sneezing and hacking the way i am. i didnt want to ruin it for any fellow hunters.

havent heard from my friends.

I would say YES! Because we boated in, it wasn't too bad until mid morning but once we started moving around there were a lot of hunters. I did find a great area for my evening hunt that had a lot of fresh sign but didn't look like anybody had been in there. I don't know about the Yorty Creek area, but the Liberty Glen area had a lot of folks.

If you like to see hunters around every corner and no pigs go to Sonoma!.... Stupid! It would be nice if everyone quit calling it the promised land because it isn't! :skeered:

By noon their was 100 hunters out and one sow was taken in the morning. I didnt see anything but people for two days of hunting! I think the new paths cut into the bummer peak area and the new fence by the water tank have really affected the pig populations in those areas

I hunted Sunday afternoon off Rockpile Rd. Didn't see any other people hunting, but some guys at the range told me they had shot a bedded pig around 10:00am but never retrieved it.

My buddy phoned me about his brother in law phoning him seeing 14 pigs the day before the opening day when they were scouting. I didn't ask what exact area it was. I'll update you guys on how they did when I talk to him again.

its good to hear from you White Mamba, hey my friend i would really like to share a day or two of bowhunting wild piggie's with you at L.S. , i will be available after the holiday season in early january to start hitting it up there, and i can only hunt there on wendays- thursdays and fridays, and i need at least 3 weeks notice so scheduale it off from work. see all the hassle i have to go though just to hunt, it suck's! have a great day and we will chat soon.............tra
