Howdy, can anyone with lake Sonoma bow hunting experience give me the report on how how hard it is to get a hog there? we have a boat with full cabin, diesel engine for ocean fishing weighs 9k so to tow it from LA we would like to get some hog meat for the expense and effort. Success rate at lake Sonoma? Thanks

It really just depends. The terrain can be brutal, but if you are willing to work at it you can make things happen. It is definitely not for the faint at heart. It is a beautiful place and time spent there is never a waste, but with the $$ you'll spend on fuel to get there and get around the lake you are better off going on a guided trip or a Tejon hunt (if you are realistically looking to kill a pig). Not trying to dicourage you, but it is a difficult place to hunt.

Take care,

Last year was pretty bad I think and this year after speaking with a guy who works there his comment was that he isn't seeing many hogs. I think the rate was about 2 pigs per 100 hunters or something like that last year if I remember correctly but I may be way off. Like any hunting the guys that really know the place seem to get pigs regardless. Our group of 6 on the opening weekend last year was skunked and only 1 guy even laid eyes on a hog. That is one hell of a long and expensive trip but it is a pretty place.

Hunting there is hit and miss. But towing that big o' boat and wiht the gas being what it is. You would be better off Going to the Tejon Ranch. Higher chances of seeing and shooting a hog plus its closer.

Success rate is less than 3%. I hunted there about 30 days last season and thought I was wasting a lot of gas money. Oh, and I live 30 minutes away.
