Because of hunter issues, like leaving carcasses at Liberty Glen campground, Ranger Joel said this is probably the last year of hog hunting at Lake Sonoma.

500+grns:

I wouldn't unload on Ranger Joel. He's been a great supporter of the program and very helpful to us. It's other COE officials who are pushing for ending the hunting program because of tresspass complaints and poor behavior by some hunters. This is another example of a dozen dirtbags ruining something for the hundreds of us who play nice and by the rules.

I'm still trying to find out about the transition to F&G. Transition of what - responsibility for administering hunting programs?

Ya,well I'm pretty ticked off at Joel's last comment of "Don't ask me for any help".Wasn't that the guy that organized this hunt in the first place ,and described bowhunters as the "elite creme of the crop"of ethical hunters.
That post at the visitor center is an absolute disrespect to the positive impact that bowhunters have accomplished at Lake Sonoma. That place was an absolute mess this time of the year when DFG ran minimal hunting access. What's happened this year during the hunt schedule is pretty petty compared to the things the ACOE deal with during summer months like garbage strone out all over the camp sites, and drunken brawls daily at the boat launch.Funny how this is acceptable and doesn't effect future camping, boating, and boozing at the Lake.
Oh ya,I did invest $14,000 on a new boat 2 years ago primarily for hunting and fishing Lake Sonoma, and visit the lake regularly.
Thankyou ACOE for making me look like a slob and a poacher to the public eye.Your post at the visitor center has been so helpful.

I hope this is not true......Fish and Game will find a way to make a buck$$$ on the hunts if allowed. I have hunted Lake Sonoma for three years and have yet to see a bowhunter break the rules. I would also guess the camp sites are cleaner than when a hunter leaves then when he got there. This just sucks if the hunts are changed because of a few dumb asses. Plus how much money does the Lake and community lose from lost dollars with no hunters coming in the winter?

Has anybody called DFG or ACOE to verify any of this?

I've been kinda out of the loop, but before everybody gets all heated up in rumor and supposition, someone ought to chase this down to the source and find out the FACTS.

A few phone calls can ease an awful lot of swollen blood vessels.

I have never met RangerJoel but in his posts here at JHO, he is very informative and helpful to the BowHunters. He really is extending a helping hand in his posts here at JHO, more than any other Government Employee that are associated with Lake Sonoma. I hope things will turn out OK, no matter which Goobermint Agency handles the BowHunts. 'Nuff said.

Troy and I talked to a few hunters this weekend and they said they were told to enjoy it because this is the last year. Like LD said typical!!!!! I think all the stuff about cut fences, trespassing and carcasses in the camp ground is just an excuse. I have probably been up there as many if not more days as anyone this year and have walked a lot of fence lines and haven't seen any that were cut. I talked to ranger Joel the day he found the carcass in the liberty Glenn campground (a month and half before the PIC. was put up at the visitor center for all the antihunters to see) and he didn't seem to upset about it. He even mentioned that they were working on opening hunting in the closed area of warm springs. I believe the decision was made to close the hunting before anything about the trouble was posted. And us bowhunters were "tossed under the bus" blaming us for the problems is just an excuse. Makes me wish I had shot the wet sow I passed on. Thought of her and her litter as 8 more pigs for us to hunt next year ends up they are just a few thousand dollers more for the guides at the cooley ranch. Typical!!!!!

I beleive that is all outdated info. If any changes will be made they may not announced until later this spring or early summer.

Interesting that Ranger Joel hasn't been on this post.

I hunt LS quite a bit and it is a shame that they have even considered closing it to archery hunting. Most of the lake's off season income has to come from archers paying for camp sites and what not. The lake front is being destroyed by pigs in some places and they will have to be kept in check, somehow. Are they gonna pay professional hunters and trappers? I have been all over the lake by boat and by foot and have only found 1 fence that was cut. If it was that important why hasn't it been fixed (it was obviously cut some time ago)? It is unfortunate that we have to sit by and let people with "hidden agendas" make absolutely obsurd accusations that affect us all. I have watched as hunters cleaned up their camp site and even at times going out of their way and picking up trash in adjacent sites. That was a proud moment, even though I didn't know the guys. I think, for the most part, we as hunters are already walking on egg shells and I'm getting sick of it! It is sad to think that I will probably move from my home state to find a place that accepts not only my values, but my way of life. When this topic first came up I was saddened and now it has turned to anger. As said before other groups of people cause way more problems than we as hunters do and yet we are the ones getting the eviction notice, served with a smile no less. BULLSH#T!

Tell me how I can be heard,

Ya know,I often find it strange how all this BS from the so called "neighbors"all erupted right after several people were posting about running into rifle hunters w/dogs from the surrounding properties.I was up ther 3 weeks ago and found about 20 ft. of fence from the Cooley Ranch trampled over from cows and 20-30 of those free loaders grazing lake property.Left the comment on my slip about it,and returned the following week not only to see the fence wasn't fixed, but twice the number of cows spread out far more into lake property. This particular morning I ran into KW the main outfitter of Cooley at the check-in where he meets up with his clients. He was smerking about the post and made a few comments that started my blood boiling.I made it clear to him that I wasn't buying the cut fence BS one bit,"who the hell cuts a 3 and half foot fence to get in any where"is what I told him right up in his face.I also informed him that when I see outfitters running their dogs on lake property again that their guide lic. and opperations are through. He shut his mouth and walked away.I know that guy is behind alot of this.If we're not up there hunting, they get free run of the lake property again, they've been doing it for a long time.
I have another question thats been bothering me.Who's fence is it, that borders the property? Is it the ACOE boundry,or is it the property owners?
Ranger Joel, your lame dude.I've been informing you for the last three years of the shinanigins your neighbors have been pulling up there, and you got nothing to say but "this is the first Ive heard of such a thing".BS

500, as far as the fence goes, it is a 50/50 split between the propety owners, but if there are no cattle on the lake property and there are cattle on the private side, then the private property owner is 100% responsible to maintain the fence and keep his cattle contained. I'm sure someone would argue that if a so called 'hunter' from the lake side knocked down the fence, then the ACOE would be at fault.
