Hey guys,

I'm trying to research an elk hunt for 2008. I want to get my 81 yr old grandpa a chance at a bull elk. For 81 he's in real good shape, and hunts with us quite often. He can go for hours on flat ground, but not too far on steep terrain.

So.. with that said. I'm looking for suggestions on landowner bull elk tags. They can be rifle or muzzleloader, but really want to hunt the rut and hear those bugles. Thats a must have for me on this hunt, I really want to experience that with him.
Not really looking for a monster but would like an area where something over 300 would be possible. As far as price, from what I've read I think I should be able to find this type of tag from 2000-3500. Maybe New Mexico, Wyoming, or Montana?

I've heard good things about landowner tags in New Mexico unit 36. But from what I read about the draw hunts, its pretty rugged. Any idea on the terrain in the private areas?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm even open to a semi-guided type hunt. So I'm really not trying to pay big bucks for the non-hunters to be involved. But I'm open to any thoughts you guys might have.

thanks!

Bobby unit 36 is pretty brushy and steep in a lot of areas. Unit 34 is the unit i live in and it is South of there and by most is considered to be a better unit.
Not to steep for elk country.
Muzzle loader hunt is still a rut hunt.
If he is mobility impaired (has a disablility card) there is a rifle hunt for MI and youth right after Archery and before ML that is awesome.

Apply and if does not draw can get a landowner tag. They are going for 3.5K to 4K as of last year plus you have to pay $766 for the tag. Not cheap.
