im on the fence with railgunners comment, but i will say that smackin a big boar
square in the shoulder with a 130 grain .270 is not where i would put my shot
on a boar standing broadside, way to much plate on larger boys, not much penetration
in my experiences, double lungers always work, they may go aways before the air runs out
but you will have a dead animal at the end of the happy trail insted of one with a broken
shoulder hobblin around, keep in mind, this is my thoughts on the placement of my .270
which i shoot, to each there own,and yes poppin a couple of ribs leaves me with way less
meat damage than smackin that bone in the shoulder

Too bad you have such a hog problem, but you seem like someone willing to tough it out and make the best of it.

Great hog.

I have to agree with you and Speck on this one. First off, I've seen enough animals hit in a shoulder that run forever. Adrenaline is an amazing thing in these animals we hunt and they have an uncanny ability to overcome a broken bone or two. The heart/lung shot lets them run a little like you said, but not far and they can never recover from that one. Personally, if an animal presents the opportunity and I have no intention of mounting it in any shape or fashion, I go for the headshot. Never seen one leave its tracks with a nice headshot placement. Let me dispell any backlash on this before it starts, these shots are only taken on animals which aren't moving around, so no chance for an errant shot.
