Large Reptile Found in Missouri River
SUGAR CREEK, Mo. -- Authorities had to shoot a crocodilian animal Friday that was in the Missouri River in Sugar Creek.
Sugar Creek police closed down La Benite Park while they dealt with the reptile, which may have been an alligator, crocodile or caiman.
It was about four feet long.
Two fishermen used chicken liver and beef steaks to try and lure the animal for capture, but they weren't able to catch it.
"Sometimes they'll get kinda big, expensive to feed. I think once in a while they get turned loose because people don't know what else to do with them," said Nick LaPosha, of the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Authorities still were trying to determine how it ended up in the river.
