Trying to decide on a rangefinder and totally new to them. Looking at either the Nikon 440 or 600 or the Bushnell Scout.

I've noticed that Bushnell gives it reading on a deer to be about 300 yards. It's reflective at 700.

How would the Nikon 440 or 600 compare? They don't give a "deer reading". Will they acurrately measure a deer out to their end ranges or is that a reflective reading on a hard object such as a rock. If it is a reflective reading, approximately how far out will they measure a deer. Any help is greatly appreciated....Matt

I just picked up one of these: Osprey. It reads reflective out to 1600 yards, and non-reflective out to 600 yards. I haven't put it to any really long range use yet, but had no problems reading targets at 300 yards (neighbor's garbage can). For $199 I think it's a good buy.

I'd count on about half of what they advertise. That's a safe bet. To get what they claim, is supposedly under perfect conditions. Not sure how they classify that either. I've had a Bushnell Pro 1000 for a few years now and I probably would've given it to you yesterday if you'd a been around! Couldn't get past 781yds. yesterday and thats kinda irritating when you're setting up to shoot at a new spot. Makes me think hard about the Leica 1200 I've been hearing so much about.

Just bought a Nikon 600 a few weeks ago since I lost my Nikon Buckmaster 800 last season. If you want a Nikon 600, I'll sell you this one. It works good, a little better than the 800 I had last years and it is smaller and handier. The rangefinding works great, I'm just going for real glass. I just picked up a new set of Minox Binoc's made by Leica and now I'm going for the Leica 900 Scan laser.

I appreciate the offer, but I've decided to buy some binoculars instead. Can't justify the rangefinder just yet. Think I will get a lot more use out of the bino's. Thanks again...Matt
